This is what industrial-scale hatemongering looks like.
All the stories below attacking Meghan (mainly) and Harry (quite a bit) appeared on the Express website within the last 24H.
44 bile-filled rants in just one day. That's a pace of 16,000 attacks a year.
Duelling concerts.

(at 7.47am) confirmed for
@capitalofficial
's Summertime Ball on June 12th and (at 7.55am) confirmed for
@bbcr1
's Big Weekend on May 29th.
Zoe's 1st breakfast show, Boris on LBC, Steve Coogan as a Capital guest, Radio X stunt rebrand to Radio Grohl, Simon Mayo hints at being on a new station launch, Rag & Bone Man on Kiss, Mark Goodier starts his Greatest Hits Radio show... it's good to work in radio at the moment!
I've always found linking to podcasts a bit of a faff. Which link should you put etc? So, me and
@pintofbeer
have built . It creates magic links that send iOS people to Apple Pods, Android folk to Google Pods and desktop to your website.
Simon Mayo leaving R2 (but staying at 5Live), Jo Whiley back to 7pm to 9pm, so they'll be a new Drivetime host. Odds that Sara Cox (post-Breakfast decision) had been promised the next daytime shift that comes up? I'd say pretty high!
Honoured to receive a fellowship from the
@radioacademy
yesterday at their Festival. It's lovely to be recognised by your peers - and also odd to hear a living eulogy about yourself too! Great to be recognised alongside three other great radio folk:
The number of people who listen to these radio breakfast shows just AT HOME, on a Monday morning:
R4 - 4.3m
R2 - 3.4m
R1 - 986k
5 Live - 897k
Heart - 955k
Smooth - 785k
and taken together, UK local commercial radio: 4.9m
I was depressed enough listening to
@BBCr4today
until I heard a promo for a doc on mantlepieces. All those unsuccessful doc pitches I've made they should have just said "it's fine, but it's just not mantlepieces".
We measure Fun Kids just in London (because RAJAR doesn't include our core audience, under 10s). For 10+ though, great to see our highest ever reach - 105k (bigger than Hits Radio, Kerrang, talkSPORT2, The Arrow, Scala, Virgin's spin-off's etc in the capital). Well done team!
Pre-mobiles, Kofi (whilst UN SG) rang the payphone in my halls of residence to speak to a friend (her Dad worked with him) to wish her a Happy Birthday. Phone answered by a randomer, he said it was 'Uncle Kofi', so he trotted off to get my mate, assuming a relatives on the phone.
A new C4 owner will need to make money. This will come from... Reduced content budget, a smaller team, producing its own programmes, owning the IP of its commissions, make more populist shows and less specialist ones. Not sure how any of that will benefit us, the current owner.
My Dad Wrote A Porno shows the value in going big to 'launch' a new season. It's a good way of reminding old listeners but also attracting new ones. The Apple Podcast Top 200 episode chart currently has over 60 (of their 80) episodes listed.
It's nice with all the new things happening in radio, that some things don't change. Like the over excited face and pointing at a microphone launch pic.
More media mastery by
@achrisevans
. He uses a One Show appearance to announce his Virgin Radio start date (21st Jan) and that the new show won't have spot ads - just a commercial partnership with Sky. Already generating impacts, on the Beeb no less, for his new sponsor! VT below.
Just listening to a podcast where there's a chat about whether guests/hosts need to wear headphones. IF YOU WORE THEN MAYBE YOU WOULDN'T SOUND SO OFF MIC.
We've had a busy morning launching eight new Fun Kids radio stations, including Fun Kids Classical with help from

Very sad that the Government has ended it's financial support of the Audio Content Fund (and the Young Audiences Content Fund). Both massively delivered on their aims, and another snub to public service broadcasting.
GB News say they are "the UK's number one news radio station in prime time": .
Obviously, it is not. Picking 'average audience' is an odd one (that does get closest to making their point). But it's still inaccurate.
Phew. A festival based British Podcast Awards. Done. Amazing work by so many people. Proper thank-yous to follow. But for now, well done to all the winners!
Pleased that we've managed to add the
@funkids
Stuck at Home podcast to
@bbcsounds
. I think it's the first time an active commercial radio podcast has appeared on the platform. Thanks to
@wallj10
and the BBC team.
We're phoning
@funkids
competition winners in the office today and someone picked up their phone answering "I'm Listening To Magic". They will not be getting £4k from us.
Who's Calling Christian remains a great contest. Listeners get celebs to ring in, the 'best' one voted for by listeners get 20k for the listener & 20k for the charity.
@oc
's just brought it back for the first time in Oz, and
@jkcorden
called in. And talked danger fairgrounds.
Just hopped on a busy tube and a man chose not to get on and wait for the next. He was reading a paper. The doors closed. He didn't notice that one end was caught in the door. As the train pulled away, his paper got taken from his hands. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen.
A quick departure suggests a new competitive gig. With rumours last year that Roman's off from Capital, could we see Jordan's appearance in Leicester Square? It would be a good choice!
Listening to podcasts in the car a lot over Christmas, loads of pro shows with variable levels and Zoom echos (why does a producer let a host record in the, mentioned, kitchen?). More noticeable in the car than headphones, and so easy to fix in the edit. So frustrating.
I made an over the top "do you want my headphones" for an over loud laptop video watcher on the train. He said YES. I had to give up my headphones and then make a point by rejecting him giving me them back saying "keep them so as not to disturb others". It was a hollow victory.

Congratulations to my talented girlfriend
@AnnabelCNN
for her three Emmy news nominations for Amanpour, the CNN show she's the Editor of. Having listened to how hard she works in lockdown, from the kitchen (!), it's great to see that rewarded!
#NewsEmmys
Very excited that our
@muxcodab
consortium has been awarded the re-advertised Ipswich FM licence. It's the first time in Ofcom's history that a challenger has beaten and incumbent. Now the hard work begins.
The new Scala Radio has updated their name on DAB to have a space before Scala, putting them at the top of an A to Z list. The start of the great DAB space wars or a fat finger at Arqiva's radiodesk?
Congrats to talkSPORT on bagging Jeff Stelling. It does mean though it's now the only station where you need a spreadsheet to work out who's presenting breakfast!
12% of adults (6.5m) listen to podcasts each week, 67% of hours is through a phone. 44% listen whilst driving, 25% working/studying, 14% whilst doing sport/exercise - data from
@RAJARLtd
's MIDAS:
I find a lot of radio studio video is so static that it all looks quite clinical. This though, is tightly cropped, has movement when Ricky moves, good lighting, nice depth of field. All can be seen as minor stuff, but together it does make it more watchable.

@jamescridland
and I did the first Next Radio conference. We did it to remove the things that annoyed us about other radio events. It may now not be going, but it's easy to see the influence it had on other events - a worthwhile, and fun, side project.
Busy day!

The Kate news is pretty similar to my own cancer story. Finding something and seeing it isn't definitely on the move, but useful to have preventative chemo. Chemo not fun, affecting but not full-on debilitating (no hair issues for most now too). But a not very fun 3 or 6 months!
