Perhaps 'part' of the reasons, not the "only" reason. People seek God for different reasons, and poverty is only one of them. And it is actually what God himself asked us to do. He asked "all who are heavily laden to come to him." That burden can be anything. To each, his own.
The only reason Nathaniel Bassey has over 400k+ people streaming his Hallelujah Challenge live on YouTube is because we are so impoverished, people are searching for hope. In a thriving economy where basic needs are met, that level of mass participation wouldn’t exist.
