Warner Bros wanted $75M - $80M for the film and rejected offers from Netflix, Amazon & Paramount, refusing to let them counter-offer.

Difficult not to be completely blackpilled by what audiences want and the state of the industry right now. We got one of the best blockbusters to come out in years and it’s failing for reasons that are both sensical yet hard to understand compared to what will make billions.
It’s actually fucking insane that the highest grossing film of all time dedicates the last half hour to making you root and raise the roof for the alien Vietcong to slaughter American marines.
Disney Hate has just become exhausting.
Yes, it's a megacorp with tons of awful practices. But the hate campaigns this year have had little to do with legitimate grievances and more just.... hating women in film
He won. His style of consumer funko pop culture is dominant. But he never let go of getting picked on in highschool in 1992 and he's so bitter that even with complete global saturation he and his action figures are still mocked by the cool kids in the smoke pit.
There’s literally a passage in that awful MCU book where the authors frame men taking steroids and undergoing intensive workout routines and diets as a step towards gender equity. And don’t make me tap the “Everyone is Beautiful and No One is Horny” sign again.
Such a “we are SO back” year for movies and yet it looks like the biggest box office pull this year will end up being more lowest denominator IP gruel like Deadpool 3. It’s fucking depressing even knowing all the factors at play (strikE, limited theatrical windows, etc.)
For all the infighting and relative snobbishness I often see on Film Twitter, I think we can all settle our differences and unite around a common enemy: FilmTok.
Also a (relatively minor but not insignificant) reason the theatrical experience isn’t seen as worth it to people anymore: vast amounts of people act like basic etiquette is optional.
This response to someone asking not to be on the phone in a theater is so insane to me. I said it elsewhere but the first century of moviegoing was spent with people simply not being on call for two hours of the day. Cell phones have really destroyed our brains
I truly believe one of the biggest failures of 21st century film criticism was critics putting all their fawning support behind Iron Man (released within the same week) while dismissing Speed Racer as “bad.” Queer audiences KNEW though!
Just finished The Reign of the MCU, the whole thing. It’s terrible. Let me share my own highlighted passages and notes.
First off, the authors are totally upfront that they think the MCU is great and innovative and cool from the introduction.
So the Russo Brothers gave us four of the best Marvel films of all time (what they pulled off and how well they pulled it off with IW and Endgame is nothing short of a miracle ) and now… check notes… People hate them?
Apparently Zaslav got outvoted on Tuesday with regards to the Ezra situation. Majority of the WB Discovery board wanted to indefinitely shelve

, but Zaslav was against it.
So he called in another meeting today, and sounds like there's a shouting match happening rn at WB!
It’s like the Russos never left! (Greenscreening backdrops for settings you can just find a physical location for but can’t because these movies are made by overworked VFX artists.)
Emerald Fennell is kinda the millennial Paul Verhoeven and the more people tell me she’s bad the more convinced I am that she’s actually nailing exactly what she’s going for
James Earl Jones, the revered actor who voiced ‘Star Wars’ villain Darth Vader, starred in ‘Field Of Dreams’ and many other films and is an EGOT winner, died this morning at his home in Dutchess County, NY. He was 93.

Greta Gerwig: Made a critically acclaimed, culturally profound, feminist movie about Barbie and the patriarchy that made a billion dollars at the box office.
Oscar nomination goes to … Ken.

I feel sad. Some of the people who lead our business are not willing to join artists in making this work safe and sustainable and excellent. These problems are solvable if we all come together as thoughtful stewards of the business. The AMPTP are failing their shareholders and
Remember everyone: the true mark of gender equality isn’t economic equity, sexual politics, or reproductive justice, it’s getting more women to direct IP slop made by board room committees!

BREAKING: Creators behind fan films ‘SPIDER-MAN: LOTUS’ and ‘SUPERMAN: SOLAR’ have confirmed the movies take place in the same cinematic universe, the RCU.
Everyone defending this obnoxious marketing campaign on the basis that both Deadpool and Wolverine are canonically (if not strongly implied) queer characters are just desperately defending this thing they know deep down is a piece of shit laughing at them. It’s pathetic.
She’s right and the fact that so many people are up in her mentions and QTs accusing her of ageism and misogyny and ableism etc. etc. etc. is all the proof you need.
Turning children into consumers from birth was the best fucking move for the Walt Disney Corporation because it meant they could kill someone and then have millions defend them for free like their lives depended on it. Thank you Disney adults, very cool and normal
The shrinking of theatrical windows post-COVID had trained audiences to just bypass the theater experience (itself becoming pricier and out of the way) and wait for shit to come on VoD unless it does Barbie/Avengers numbers opening weekend. It fucking sucks.
So you wanna make a “Year End” movie list? Some tips:
1.) Haven’t seen EVERY movie released that year? It’s not a “best of” list, it’s your favorites
2.) Don’t post your own movies. It’s tacky
3.) “Worst of” lists aren’t helpful criticism. Don’t do them. Lift up movies instead
I’ve been working on show notes for our forthcoming Captain Marvel episode and I saw the movie less than 72 hours and I can barely recall anything except for a few still images from all the fight scenes
Looking to Deadpool (and by extension the MCU) for queer representation has got to be one of the most dreadful things I’ve repeatedly encountered in the last several months. It’s a joke at worst and totally unserious at best.
Prediction: the movie will end with the Fantastic Four going through some kind of space-time-multiverse Thanos or Loki-ass rift that will send them into the main MCU universe. There now you don’t have to see the movie.
Kevin Feige confirms ‘FANTASTIC FOUR’ is a period piece set in the 1960s.
He also teases that the film is set in an alternate universe to the main MCU.

Otaku culture (and any escapist retreat into fantasy) at its worst is isolating and lonely and closes oneself off from the world in a perpetually depressed and emotionally stunted state of being. I feel sorry for you that you’re incapable of seeing how obvious this is.

All the original avengers cast skated on such insane shit. He was hyping up Dan Crenshaw on SNL as a “sensible trump alternative” and now half his tweets are arguing for concentration camps for trans people.
@ThePredatorZach
The fact that the strikes (which were good, but we were warned they’d effect the 2024 output) probably pushed marketing campaign back and COVID shortening theatrical runs to train audiences to just wait until it comes onto VoD in two weeks is arguably more to blame.
The ugliest looking movie I have ever seen considering the source material/original film the iconography is being taken from, with no fucking lighting. Jon M. Chu is a fraud who’s going to profit from Ariana stan money. A dog with cataracts sees more visually stimulating shit.
