Oh yes, bit of a clue! Hugh Burns, who used to play with Sandie in the 60s and at this time was the guitarist in Wham, suggested me to Sandie. I went on tour with her in 1987 around her success with The Smiths’ ‘Hand Of in Glove’. The rest of the band were ‘JoBoxers’. This was just before we released ‘Perfect’. After the show I sat on a table with Colin Vearncombe (of ‘Black’) opposite Belinda Carlisle and Michael Hutchence. In the morning, as I checked out of the hotel, I stood next to Ben E King and I remember thinking, “I’m standing by Ben E King! On the flight back I was sitting next to Sandie and I was sick, she said, “Don’t worry, you’ll get used to the high life!”
