Happy Birthday in heaven, Tom Seaver, you were simply perfect.
The sick obsession that some
#Mets
fans have with Matt Harvey is a disgrace. The guy pitched his arm off and helped a Wilpon-run dysfunctional org get to a World Series. He's a human being, root for his success.
Steve Cohen has sent a message to MLB agents, basically saying, deal with
#Mets
in good faith and you and your client will be treated well. If not, he's going to call you out.
I have zero problem with this approach.
If the Correa signing doesn't happen, I will always take Steve Cohen making a mistake in an effort to be great over Fred & Jeff Wilpon unwilling and afraid to make a mistake.
#Mets
In case some of us have forgotten, Tomás Nido is also a homegrown player.
#Mets
are not going to bury him on the bench. He's struggling at the plate, but he's an above-average defensive catcher, and I think he deserves our support, not ridicule.
Perhaps instead of mocking
@StevenACohen2
for engaging with his fans, and taking chances with new ideas, maybe we should be grateful for the chance to have
#Mets
ownership that isn't tone deaf and dismissive of the fan base.
I propose we given Baez and anyone else who gave the 👎 a mulligan and move forward. The org addressed it, and hopefully we can get back to being fans watching our team try to get back in this thing.
Who’s with me?
#LGM
Ron Darling is a superb analyst. Going after Severino for failing to cover HP is one thing, but then explaining how the manager used to handle it, and how players are so overly sensitive to criticism is just first rate.
#Mets
Why is everyone in media so concerned about
#Mets
payroll? No one seemed to care when Fred & Jeff Wilpon lied to fans for years that Madoff case wouldn’t affect Mets payroll. Steve Cohen is spending the way a No. 1 media market team should spend.
If you’re in the clubhouse every day, you’d know the
#Mets
clubhouse is a solid one. If you’ve never stepped into the
#Mets
clubhouse, you should probably zip it.
If any of you younger Mets fans want to know what is was like when the Mets traded Tom Seaver in 1977, you’re getting a very slight taste of it with today’s Justin Verlander trade: Cy Young pitcher for a “solid return” as per Met apologists. It took almost a decade to recover.
It's interesting that no other team in MLB seems to value
#Mets
Daniel Vogelbach enough to inquire if he's available. The "keeps the clubhouse loose" narrative no longer applies, since the team is selling, so why is he even on the roster at this point?
I don't mean to be
I think Buck Showalter is a great manager. But I think we are seeing what happens when a great baseball mind is being controlled by a GM and FO that thinks analytics means more than baseball IQ.
#Mets
are at a crossroads. Media is following the fans in coming for Buck. Even Gary
This may upset some of you, but if you were on the “
#Mets
are trash” or “Cohen is Wilpon” before the JD Martinez signing, and now you’re all “LFGM” … you’re a disgrace.
Here's the thing about the alleged trade talks between the
#Brewers
and
#Mets
regarding Pete Alonso; Whether you like it or not, it would have been irresponsible for GM Billy Eppler to not take the call. I don't believe he had any intention of doing so, but even if he did, why
FWIW I'm hearing that
#Mets
may be signing a free agent "in a day or two."
I have no idea who, but person who told me 1) would know 2) had a smile on their face.
I am hoping it's Springer, but person wouldn't say.
I've never been afraid to criticize
#Mets
ownership, FO, the manager or the players. Anyone who's followed me over the years knows this.
However, I believe
#Mets
will win the NL East, because I think there's fight left in every player.
It begins tonight. Who's with me?
#LGM
If Todd Zeile had information that Marcus Stroman was "divisive" he should have shared that information before the pitcher signed with the
#Cubs
.
The
#Mets
have an SNY problem, and it's not a secret as to why.
Bagging on a player after they leave is a longtime Wilpon move.
"He just seems to be complaining when things aren't going well. I think that's kind of one of those moments. Maybe lost in the heat of the game."
- Rhys Hoskins on Jeff McNeil
If you are jumping off the
#Mets
bandwagon with 53 games left, I feel sorry for you.
This team is going to prevail, and you’re going to miss out.
Let’s Go Mets!
I'm a little annoyed with the media and yes,
#Mets
fans calling out each other for the Citi Field crowd last night. I've only been to a few games myself this year. Ticket prices, parking, concessions, etc are the highest they have ever been.
Say what you want about Wally Backman, but when he was managing in
#Mets
minors, he knew when players were ready, and the ones that weren’t. Even when management disagreed, Wally always put the players first. Don’t take my word for it, just ask Nimmo, Conforto and Jacob deGrom,
If you think
#Mets
are going to gut their system and pay half a billion dollars for one player, you’re not paying attention to how this ownership and front office operates.
I think Buck Showalter deserves a ton of credit for
#Mets
success in 2022, but Billy Eppler should be getting some love here too. As should the coaching staff, and of course, the players who are executing the cultural turnaround.
I love this
#Mets
team.
One of the great aspects of the
@MLB
All-Star Game was seeing all of the players of other teams in their uniforms. It's inexplicable to me that MLB has done away with this great tradition, and the AL and NL now wear these ridiculous things.
If you'd like to see MLB keep using
I don't know if Lastings Milledge's career would have turned out differently if the
#Mets
veterans had embraced his youthful exuberance, but I know this; I had zero problem with Lastings high-fiving fans after his HR off Benitez. Zero.
Learn a lesson, Joey Cora, let Francisco
June 4, 2006: Lastings Milledge hits his first HR, a two-run shot off former

#MetsRewind
For fans who say they are no longer watching or listening to
#Mets
games, that’s your prerogative.
I intend on keeping an eye on this team for the rest of the season, so my opinions are informed.
I welcome any conversations with any
#Mets
fans who remain engaged.
Most
#Mets
fans believe trading a prospect package led by Francisco Álvarez makes sense for Juan Soto. I'm one of them.
However, if
#Mets
are able to acquire Trey Mancini and David Robertson w/o having to trade too many assets, and keep Álvarez, I'm on board with that as well.
Whatever happens with Pete Alonso after this season, so be it. But for now, he’s the goddamn
#Mets
first baseman and you better spend the next two weeks rooting your ass off for him.
#LGM
Gary Cohen has every right to voice his opinion, but it doesn’t mean he’s right. I had zero problem with Buck going out there at the time, and I’m not going to change my opinion after the fact.
Remember when the 2018
#Mets
started off 11–1 and were 17–9 in April?
They went 61–76 the rest of the way.
It’s a marathon not a sprint.
One game, one inning, one AB at a time.
Based on everything I am hearing, it's far more likely that the
#Mets
will bring up Francisco Álvarez sooner rather than later instead of acquiring another catcher.
I'm not sure it's the right move, but it appears to be the move that will be made.
In the end,
@StevenACohen2
listened to his GM and his FO and didn't force them to sign Correa at any cost. If we take away anything from this, it should be that. This is a whole new
#Mets
way of doing business, and I prefer it, even if it doesn't always go the way we expect.
Nobody asked me, but I think Aaron Judge is going to sign with the SF Giants, Jake deGrom is going to sign with the Texas Rangers, and Ohtani is going to be traded to the New York Mets.
I am hearing that LHP David Peterson could be part of a potential
#Mets
#Cubs
deal for Kris Bryant.
Let me say I hope this isn't the case...that's a lot to give up for a one-year rental , even for a player of Bryant's ability.
“I want to be here no matter what,” Ottavino said. “This is a good place for me. I love the organization. I love being able to play where I’m from. And I know that we’re not going to stink next year.”
In a largely unprecedented financial concession to give roster flexibility to a contender, New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson has agreed on a four-year, $156.5 million extension, his agent Sam Rose of CAA tells ESPN --- $113M less guaranteed than he’s eligible to receive in one
#Mets
GM Billy Eppler says he's treating tonight's 12am CBA deadline like the trade deadline, so there could be a move later.
Wow. How things have changed!
People tell me there's no positive spin from this weekend, but
#Mets
are in the postseason. We can debate all of the rest of it after the World Series.
Until then, it's
#LGM
so don't waste me time with your toxicity...
I really hate to say it, I really do. But
#Mets
are making it very easy for David Stearns to tear it all down.
Last night was a perfect opportunity to start some momentum, and the team failed miserably.
I do not want the next
#Mets
manager to be a novice. The exception would be Eric Chavez, who knows the team and understands the NY stage.
As for experienced managers; I’d be fine with Craig Counsell, who has a solid resume and a successful prior working relationship with David
Gary Carter deserves to have his number retired.
David Wright deserves to have his number retired,
Keith Hernandez deserves to have his number retired.
John Franco deserves to have his number retired.
Hiring David Stearns will go down as one of the best decisions in
#Mets
history.
I have every confidence he will transform this organization into one that pursues perfection and captures excellence.
“Building a baseball team is like building a house. You look for the best
I don’t get political on here, but the last people I want to hear from tonight are the politicians, judges and DAs who have created this reality of caring more about criminals, particularly repeat offenders, than our police and our law abiding citizens.
#EnoughIsEnough
The Pittsburgh Pirates should be a powerhouse. Beautiful ballpark, loyal fan base, and a flagship NL franchise, going back to 1887.
The fans deserve more than this, and MLB should be embarrassed. Instead, they empower small market owners to be cheap.
Folks starting to mentally jump ship on
#Mets
, Cohen and Alderson is alarming.
Guys, decisions being made are about baseball, not the whims from unqualified family members or an ownership shell game.
We’re better than this
#LGM
While I believe
#Mets
are interested in Kris Bryant, and have spoken to
#Cubs
this offseason, I can confirm that
#Mets
have no intention of trading Francisco Alvarez this offseason.
To anyone.
Please stop including him in "trade ideas."
Thanks...
I tried to make a point last night that when Wally Backman managed in the
#Mets
minor league system, the players he was trusted with to get to the major leagues were well prepared. Even Sandy Alderson admitted that.
Despite his off-the-field issues, despite the poor relationship
I’ve read the Carlos Correa is a player that
#Mets
“didn’t need” because of Escobar & Baty.
While I enjoy those players, anyone who thinks
#Mets
didn’t need Correa to hit behind Pete Alonso, or that Mets didn’t need an impact bat, is incorrect.
There is a segment of the baseball media that is under the impression that
#Mets
are still an organization deserving of mockery and think its cool to troll
#MetsTwitter
and frankly, it’s embarrassing.
#DoBetter
I'm happy that Paul Sewald has become a solid reliever in Seattle. But I don't remember him being mistreated by the
#Mets
fans or being booed out of town.
One more thing to consider: many people didn't want to work for
#Mets
because of Fred /Jeff. So, that alone will open the list of candidates far bigger than ever before.
I identified chemistry issues w/in the Mets clubhouse months ago and floated the possibility of an Alonso trade in July.
I get the resistance from fans. I do. But sometimes the best move ultimately is the most unconventional and unpopular.
Everything is in play, smartly.
I wonder which gutless
#Mets
employee decided to badmouth one of the team’s top prospects?
Same goes for the suit who leaked the Alonso being shopped at the deadline story.
Hey
@StevenACohen2
don’t allow this on your watch, it was a major problem with the last regime and
Dear
@StevenACohen2
I haven’t seen any announcements regarding a uniform patch to memorialize Bud Harrelson for the 2024 season.
Many of us view
#3
as a
#Mets
icon and hope that this is the plan.
Rather than poke fun at
#Mets
Acting GM Zack Scott’s DUI arrest or muster some fake outrage about his job performance, I wonder if this is moment where he needs our support for what could be a serious issue. People come first, folks.
#Mets
manager Buck Showalter did the right thing by keeping his cool yesterday. Had he flipped out on the umps, he could have made a bad situation worse, and it could have adversely affected the rest of the game. Instead, he went about his business and managed a hell of a game.
One could argue that if
#Mets
GM Billy Eppler signed Kyle Schwarber in the offseason, and not been bamboozled by Alderson and company that Dom Smith and JD Davis were the solution, we'd be having different conversations about the Mets right now.
If you are a
#Mets
fan doubting
@StevenACohen2
trashing David Stearns, & screaming about this offseason, you are entitled 2 ur opinion.
But when this team is in the mix at the All-Star break, you’d better keep your mouths shut. Nothing worse than a hypocritical front runner
To blame
@StevenACohen2
for the state of the
#Mets
is easily the dumbest take of the year,
@BrandonTierney
. You are a
#Yankees
fan, so I should expect your Mets hot takes to be ridiculous, but this one is embarrassing.
Finally home. Had an interesting convo on drive w an agent who reps a few of the mid-range pitching targets…says Billy Eppler has “transformed the perception of
#Mets
” from an agent/club perspective. “There’s no BS with Billy”
#Mets
fans and bad execs like Fred & Jeff Wilpon are the only baseball people who think reunions with former players who got away are the solution.
David Stearns is looking for the best players, period.
It’s not
@StevenACohen2
fault that only a few of the questions asked during yesterday’s press conference were solid queries. It’s a little troubling that not one reporter asked about whether analytics is a point of contention between the FO and Buck Showalter. Esp since they all
My sources indicate that
#Mets
GM Billy Eppler will have final say in who becomes
#Mets
manager, regardless of team owner Steve Cohen's presence during the final interviews.
If the price I ultimately had to pay to be rid of the Wilpons was Jarred Kelenic, then by God, I will accept the hefty fee.
Let the haters hate and the mockers mock.
I am a
#Mets
fan, and I got my team back.
#LGM
You have to watch
#Mets
every day to assess the value of certain players, esp Lindor.
Making judgements solely on stats, even the sabermagical ones, when you might catch an ESPN game or highlights, is half-assed clickbait.
What would
#Mets
organization look like right now if the Wilpons had managed to hang on to the team?
Think about that before you start losing your minds about who the next manager is.
I think the biggest difference in
#Mets
this year is the Stearns/ Mendoza dynamic. I think there’s more collaboration than there was between Buck and Billy Eppler. Buck clearly was miserable under the influence of Eppler and the FO.
Before we start spending Steve Cohen's $$$ I think we should start thinking about who the next GM or head of baseball ops should be.
Watching the
#Mets
this year, the entire org should be embarrassed at the severe lack of fundamentals on display every game.
