Here it is! My 1st Hashnode article. 🎉
It's a collection of tips that have helped me over my coding journey, things I wish I had known back when I started. I hope it helps others out, too. ☺️
Please give it a read!
What do you wish you'd known? 🤔
Experienced devs... before GitHub was around, what did you use? Microsoft Visual SourceSafe?
It's crazy to think there was a time when GitHub didn't exist. 😅
C++, man, C++!
Came across this pic of me in college, at 20 years old.
I used to tease my CS major friends, secretly wishing I was a CS major, too.
I'm making up for it now, just a few years later. 😉💪
Whatever happened to Ruby/Ruby on Rails? Is it still widely used?
I came across a YouTube video I had saved about it around 7 years ago. Seems like it's not really talked about anymore. 🤔
Confession time...
Today I'm having doubts about becoming a web developer.
I started this journey with an interest in UI/UX, to learn to code for a fundamental understanding of HTML, CSS, & JavaScript. I got so caught up in "mastering" JS that somewhere things changed.

15 years ago today I married my special pair programmer.
We met in college. A CS major, he’d quiz me (business/pre-law) what HTML, HTTP & other acronyms stood for. 🤷♀️😄
He's always been my biggest supporter. ♥️
Hope you all have/find someone like that!
Finally successfully deployed my React app to GitHub pages! 🎉🍾
It's a tad more complicated than pushing vanilla JavaScript projects... 🤔
Celebrate all the small wins, too, right? 😆💃

Wow! 8,000+ followers... Thank you - I really appreciate it. 🙏
A little about me:
- Currently freelancing (WordPress & Shopify)
- I got started in web dev after my husband wouldn't make me a site for my small business (I did it myself!)
- I love coffee ☕
Tell me about you!
This is Lily, my pair programmer.
She likes to climb up on my shoulder, nuzzle in my coding hair & take a nap.
She's not a very good pair programmer. 😆😻

My husband keeps bugging me to make him a website.
This was me some years back, begging him to make me a site... and also the reason why I learned how to code. 💪
My, how the tables have turned. 😈
To all those who said "false" - gold stars for you! ⭐️
React is a JavaScript library, not a framework (although I've seen plenty here refer to it as a framework). 👍
Here's a great article explaining why: .
Last week was the 1st time I'd taken my laptop to a coffee shop since before the Pandemic. 😳
It was good to get out. If only I could've brought my 27" iMac along instead. 😅
Do you often work in coffee shops/cafes?
Today, some years ago, I married my favorite programmer.
It's amazing how quickly the time has passed...
... and a great reminder that although life gets busy, take time to make memories with friends & family. You won't regret it. 💜
“No pain, no gain.”
This is my current motto.
Whether it be breaking down a difficult JavaScript problem, or undergoing tortourous physical therapy for my shoulder, it's going to be tough before it gets easier...
and it will get easier! 💪
Hang in there, all!
Wow! 1000+ friends! It’s been fun getting to know everyone here! 😊
