🚨🚨 Reminder that dreams do come true!!🚨🚨
I wanted to share with everyone that I matched into Neurology at UCSF. 🌞🌈🌊
Feeling extremely blessed and grateful for all of the amazing mentors and friends that neurology has gifted me so far. I couldn't have done it without you
I was recently talking with my students about epilepsy and the atypical presentations auras and seizures can have...
From hallucinations to deja vus, and even ... happiness?? Dostoevsky explains 👇🏽👇🏽

Looking forward to the NY, but 1st I got the perfect reminder of one of the best moments of 2021: ✨my 1st publication ✨
Thank you
@AaronLBerkowitz
for the xmas gift... For giving me the opportunity to write this piece with you and for mentoring me through the whole process!
Wanted share w/ my
#NeuroTwitter
family that I'm applying to Neurology this year!! 🧠❤️
So thankful for all of the friends, experiences, and lessons neuro has given me so far. Excited to embark on this new journey (
@NMatch2024
), make new friends and dive deeper into this field.
I planned my entire weekend around
@DxRxEdu
's new book and it was the perfect reminder that:
1. Medicine is hard enough for me to be hard on myself.
2. It took me a while to figure out I had a place in medicine... but now I'm not going anywhere.
In an effort to increase my trivia knowledge and call it "studying", I'll start doing 🧵s about how art intersects w/ medicine in a place called neurology!❤️🧠
First one up: Should the Babinski sign be the Botticelli sign?
Short answer: No
Long answer: No, but this is cool 👇🏽
My friendship with Rafa was based on dreams, especially far-reaching, seemingly impossible ones.
I was lucky enough to have shared some pinch-me-moments with him and I am thankful to have learned from him that nothing is out of our reach.
One life.
So many dreams.

Lo dijeron bien, son niñas embarazadas. Mucha de la información oficial utilizan el termino "mujeres embarazadas de 12-17 años" lo cual si es normalizar a estas niñas como adultas.
Do you think creativity can be pathological? 🤔
Neuro says: maybe🧠❤️
What differential diagnosis can you come up for the CC: "new or improved bursts of creativity"? 🔥

Medicine is hard but it's so worthwhile if you enjoy the journey, get good friends and allow yourself to grow everyday.
Thanks everyone!

It's hard to explain the magic that happened today during
@CPSolvers
VMR.
Growing up my favourite princess was Lilo (brown girl + black hair that kinda looked like me... yeah).
Now let's just say VMR's are like Lilo to my grown up medical heart. ❤️
Try to focus on being your favourite self and not your best self.
One is achievable and will make you happy.
One is unrealistic and will set you up for failure.
Brain-Eye love relationship is one of the most beautiful things in the world. 👁️🧠❤️
Everytime I see a bitemporal hemianopsia my step1 brain goes... ok, pituitary ademona.
And then my heart goes through all of these thoughts.
A 🧵of peri and post VMR Reflections.
Can't believe I missed the
#iMed2022
awards on Friday... But hopefully it's not too late to celebrate this award-winning tweetorial! ❤️🥈
A powerful reminder that
#MedTwitter
has made me a better clinician and educator. Incredibly thankful for this community!
I am still processing all the thoughts/emotions provoked by the
#AANAM
, but thought I would reflect halfway through the week.
A 🧵on what I've learned about neurology and myself so far. Based on a quote by St. Thomas Aquinas:
The things that we love tell us what we are.
The only reason I wake up at 6am on a Sunday is to catch up and learn from the best y más pilas (quien hoy uso la palabra espontaneamente por primera vez! 🔋)

schemas in spanish? ❤️🔥
Gracias a los voluntarios de esta semana que realizaron la traducción de los siguientes esquemas. Nos encanto trabajar con ustedes y queremos compartir su trabajo con todos!
Trying to work on some
#MedEd
skills, I came across:
✨The 1 and only
@rabihmgeha
, who has a schema on the goals of feedback (oversimplified here) and
✨ The
@CurbsidersTeach
, who have an episode on feedback conversations
Here are some of the things I've learnt so far👇🏽
Heavy-hearted thinking about a patient, a teenager who worked long hours under the sun as a farmer.
Me, in the certainty of the future: Can you come back later this month? I'd like to re-check x,y,z.
Him, in uncertainty: I can't come back. I can only be here today.
....
If everything would've gone according to plan I'd be finishing medschool today... Instead I'm happier, wiser and more excited about medicine than ever before.
Time is not linear.
Hablar otro idioma es tener una segunda alma...
A partir de mañana, los
@CPSolvers
dedicarán sus sábados a estudiantes que hablan inglés como segundo idioma! ❤️🧠
#Medtwitter
, we're thrilled to announce the launch of new weekly Saturday VMR sessions primarily for non-native English speakers!
The case presentation & discussion format will be similar to other
@CPSolvers
VMRs.
Join us TOMORROW @ 9am PST/12pm EST:
Today I presented a case on the
@CPSolvers
Neuro-VMR.
Throughout med-school I've had a love-hate relationship with neuro (currently living for it!) and thought I'd share some advice I've received over the last years that have helped me overcome my fear. 🧠
#EndNeurophobia
!!
I'm incredibly thankful for all of the
@CPSolvers
friends who inspire me everyday to be kinder through the generosity they have while sharing what they know and who they are. ❤️
Proud beyond words
@Rafameed
I just had a preview of his upcoming oral abstract presentation.... And was brought to tears by him and his powerfull mission to make medicine education more accesible.
I'll keep crying while he goes out there and changes the world.
To keep exploring how art and medicine intersect in a place called neurology, let's talk about the one and only: Frida Kahlo🧠❤️🐒
Fun facts: she rode an ambulance to her 1st solo art show and was featured on Vogue... twice.

Quotes for a week on learning how to prioritize
- You can do anything, but not everything.
- If you don't choose a day to rest, your body will choose it for you. (learned this the hard way).
Incredibly thankful and honored to be a part of this amazing family! Excited to keep learning and growing with such kind and passionate people!
Cherry on top is having my picture featured besides

In the spirit of self-compassion and self-appreciation, I wanted to share with you some opportunities I've had to voice my thoughts.
I feel extremely thankful for the people who have given me the courage and belief that the perspective I have to add to this world is valuable.❤️

Today thankful for this little girl who taught me everything I know about lymphadenopathy + splenomegaly and
@coldestdayonme
for sparking a memory!
Ecstatic epilepsy (EE), 1st described by Dostoevsky in the 19th century, is a rare form of focal epilepsy in which aura provokes
✨feelings of well-being
✨intense serenity and bliss
✨“enhanced self-awareness”
*I let some AIs create visuals of EE according to D's description
I dont usually share selfies, but this 1 hits home. After a couple of unlucky events, mom asked how was i doing?
Sunbathing on the back of a crane with 4% batt. at rush hour? Enjoying every bit of it... A bad attitude doesn't make hard days go faster
A mal tiempo, buena cara
Today we had a great Neuro case on
@CPSolvers
VMR involving eyes and mentioning one of the greatest mimickers (especially in earlier centuries): syphilis.
PS: Dürer has something in his eyes too... but that's for another time.
Dostoevsky, one of my favourite authors (to whom I owe some of my own most "profound" thoughts) is also one of the most famous literary figures on epilepsy.
Here's a description of Dostoevsky's seizures by a close friend, Strakhov:
My bio on the

It's been hypothesized that D's EE might have originated from mesial temporal sclerosis.
He is even hypothesized to have had the controversial interictal Geschwind Syndrome featuring:
🌩️Hypergraphia
🌩️Hyperreligiosity
🌩️Circumstantiality
Could this explain his writing??
Started the day liking neuro; but...after reviewing ischemic stroke (something we see everyday) and an awesome
@CPSolvers
central myelinolisis case (something hopefully i'll never get to see)... I'm ending the day loving neuro! Thanks

Although a lot of that description is fascinating, what really catches everyone's eyes is the term✨ecstasy✨.
What could he even mean by that? Thankfully, Doestoevsky himself tells us more about his experiences through the (beautiful) narration of a seizure in "The Idiot":
Son elegibles para 💉COVID-19 🇬🇹
Ok, this broke my brain but it was on my step1 studying schedule so...
A 🧵 of dissecting this last tweet.
Thank you
@RosenelliEM
!! If I could convince the USMLE of letting me do the test w/ my twitter I'm pretty sure I could it!
Hypokalemia and acidosis? Thinking RTA? Check urine lytes. Remember that the Urine AG is nml in a healthy pt and should be negative in an acidosis reflecting ⬆️ NH4+. If the urine AG is + then 💡type 1 or 4 RTA as proton excretion is abnormal
5yo me would be happy I still sing in the shower.
13yo me would be sad i don't have a tattoo sleeve.
17yo me would hate that I'm a doctor.
20yo me would be flabbergasted that I can parallel park (sometimes).
22yo me would be proud I know what HLH is.
Things change.
So incredibly thankful to start the new year with this amazing family of
#bossladies
and
@CPSolvers
. 👑❤️
Thank you for being so thoughtful and passionate in your work in reducing the gender gap in clinical reasoning.
3. I shouldn't judge myself by my worst days.
4. I'm not as good as I'll be in 10 years.
5. Everything I do, I do for my future patients.
6. I know very little about medicine, about life, about myself... and that makes life a never ending learning journey.
Estudiando el ATLS y procrastinando me recorde de todas las areas rojas que tuve (pocas y hace una vida entera) y de lo mucho que queria enseñarle a mis externos (inexistentes por el Covid) estas cosas. Que otras??

I've always been interested in cognition. Then I discovered clinical reasoning and loved the idea of meta-cognition.
And now I can't stop thinking about thinking about thinking.

Medicine is science and humanities, not because you work with humans (although most doctors do...), but because you should (at least strive to) learn about philosophy, religion, anthropology, geography, art to better understand and serve your patients.
Wonderful 🧵 Dani.
The region I live in is surrounded by myths… Being from the Amazon is considered different even within my own country. While there is many times a lack of resources, professionals come up with solutions daily to problems only those who live here might consider.
It was an honour to have
@DrNaluca
share a case and talk a little bit about her experience in Zambia 🇿🇲 with us on Global Virtual Morning Report.
As a
#FutureNeurologist
this conversation definitely filled my bucket. 🧠❤️
1/2 On conversations with strangers:
Old soul: You look really young to be a doctor. Your mom must be proud of you.
Young soul: Thank you. I guess she's proud. Not sure it's because I'm a doctor though.
Old soul: Well, what is she proud of then?
Ecstatic auras are also described to:
✨have the impression of time dilation
✨and can be described as a mystic experience.
As seen in the ending of the above passage from "The Idiot":
