Coming this fall … THE MIDNIGHT CLUB, my adult debut and a book that took me 35+ years to get right. It’s about nostalgia, friendship, regrets, a mysterious campus death at a small Vermont college, and possibly a touch of time travel.

@ferrifrigida I ran reviews for a regional alt-weekly. We were able to pay moderately, and it was still incredibly hard to find good reviewers. Since you can’t pay for the time it takes to read a book, there’s usually a labor of love aspect.

@LeslieWilber @TheLincoln I’m a movie critic, so if I’m not watching with all my attention, I know there’s something wrong. If it’s pleasure viewing, I try to turn it off once I start reaching for my phone.

@TheLincoln We were assigned a book a week for most of my undergrad lit courses in the 1980s, and that included books in the original French and supplementary critical articles. We were overloaded. I skimmed some stuff (Tristram Shandy!). But I also read a ton.
