Mama Doing Good met with the Kenya Forest Service's Forest Survey and Information Department, the unit tasked with developing, maintaining, and updating Kenya's forest Geographic Information System (GIS) database. The discussions centered on leveraging advanced technology to accelerate forest restoration efforts. By integrating drones, GIS, and remote sensing, we aim to enhance the monitoring of our restoration work on 200 hectares at the Shikusa Block of Kakamega Forest. These tools will enable us to track progress in real-time, gather critical data, and make informed decisions to ensure the success of the adopted site. In a bid to foster transparency and community engagement, we plan to create interactive story maps that will visually narrate our restoration journey — showcasing key milestones, challenges, and our unwavering commitment to rehabilitating the forest. Through these technological innovations, we are not only safeguarding Kenya’s natural heritage but also laying the foundation for a more sustainable and resilient ecosystem.
