This also has to do with the mouth+tongue that venom has but is absent on symbiote spidey. Basically, the symbiote is content with Peter, but after he betrays it,it is extremely angered.

In the first run of the character, venom didn’t necessarily add a large amount of bulk to its host, Eddie was just a really big guy. In more modern renditions, it’s level of bulk/size has to do with the amount of control the host has on the symbiote/the emotions of the symbiote.
