Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg responds to President Trump’s comments, calling them “despicable” and highlighting that there were no fatal commercial airline crashes on his watch.
Despicable. As families grieve, Trump should be leading, not lying. We put safety first, drove down close calls, grew Air Traffic Control, and had zero commercial airline crash fatalities out of millions of flights on our watch. President Trump now oversees the military and the FAA. One of his first acts was to fire and suspend some of the key personnel who helped keep our skies safe. Time for the President to show actual leadership and explain what he will do to prevent this from happening again.

Speaking from the White House briefing room, President Trump opens with a moment of silence for the victims of the plane crash. He starts with, "I speak to you this morning in an hour of anguish for our nation." Trump also said he has "opinions" on how the disaster occurred.

BREAKING: Senator Roger Marshall confirms American Airlines Flight 5342 was carrying “roughly 60 passengers” from Wichita when it collided with the Army helicopter near DCA around 9 p.m.
Tonight, we received devastating news of what can only be described as nothing short of a nightmare. A plane, traveling to the Nation's capital from Wichita, KS carrying roughly 60 passengers collided with a Military helicopter. My prayer is that God wraps his arms around each and every victim and that he continues to be with their families. There are no words that can make telling this story any easier. I ask the world to join me in praying for Kansas this evening, the first responders, rescue crews, and all those involved in this horrific accident. I have been in contact with local and national authorities asking for answers and will continue to demand more information on how this unfolded.

Not a ton of information coming out at this time. The type of plane involved in the crash typically carries dozens of passengers. About 76 seats, according to information online about the fleet of regional aircrafts operated by American Airlines.
We’re aware of reports that American Eagle flight 5342, operated by PSA, with service from Wichita, Kansas (ICT) to Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA) has been involved in an incident. We will provide information as it becomes available.
