The families of people disappeared in #Syria are in unbelievable distress, so much of it exacerbated by irresponsible circulation of misinformation, as well as graphic images of bodies. One mother told me the pain of the last few days is more than 13 years combined.

Unfortunately @POTUS does NOT treat ALL Americans equally. Not once has he ever called or invited us, or even said my fathers name. My father was kidnapped & held hostage for nearly 7 yrs by a terrorist regime yet my family is not an equal priority to @POTUS. Sad. @FreeMajdK.
I just sat down with the loved ones of Americans taken hostage by Hamas to hear their stories. I reassured them that I will continue doing everything possible to secure the release of their family members. And that we will not give up hope.

Majd Kamalmaz, an American citizen, was detained and killed by Syrian authorities. Another American citizen and journalist Austin Tice remains in Syrian captivity. Multiple administrations have failed them. My deepest and most sincere condolences to Majdโs family.

Wafa Mustafa hasn't heard from her dad since he went missing in July 2013. She, like tens of thousands of others whose loved ones have gone missing in Syria, believes he's being detained by the government and is still searching for him
