Some notes from camps/showcases I've observed over the years and discussed with college coaches: Hitters Coaches can get a good idea in the first 1-3 swings in BP if you have a chance to hit. Bat speed is important, but how you generate good bat speed is equally as important (clean direction towards middle of the field, around the ball, steep vs on-plane, etc...) Swing Process - some keys words always mentioned: simple, efficient, repeatable, "hitterish", easy takes, good idea of strike zone, consistently finds the barrel.. Pitchers Mound presence - do you have an idea of what you are trying to do? Fastball command to both sides and ability to land a secondary whenever you want. Having feel for a 3rd pitch is crucial to project as a starter at the next level. Controlling the little things - running game, mixing up looks, 1.2 seconds or below to the plate, fielding your position, pickoffs. Outlier stuff - what makes your profile unique? Infielders Too many infielders start/play from a high-to-low posture. Similar to hitter's in BP, you can show a lot in your first ground ball rep from pre-pitch to finishing the throw to catch a coach's eye. Clean and efficient actions - the main question all coaches are asking themselves when evaluating infielders, "Can they stick in the middle?" Be really good at playing catch - demonstrate this during warm ups, pre game catch play, and during the games. Outfielders Work on clean footwork behind and through the ball. Don't have a plus arm? Make up for it by having a quick release and transfer, attack the ball aggressively.
