I’ve been practicing Family Medicine for over 10 years. Frustrated with the way we treat chronic diseases. I became board certified in obesity medicine in 2021. I am one of the very few hispanic physicians certified in obesity medicine in Michigan.

The number of physicians who are board certified in obesity medicine in the US is 6700. Not enough when nearly 42% of adults and 19% of children and adolescents in the US have obesity. @ObesityMedicine @OMAsocial

@AXP1x1 There is so much bias against people with obesity without understanding it as a disease and knowing the science behind it. Energy in and energy out plays a role, but it’s not all: hormones, gut function, emotions, stress, sleep, genetics, mental health, culture, food addiction

@AXP1x1 That’s old school, obesity is a disease, nutrition and physical activity are important but there are so many more factors that affect your weight.

@DrHussainL Thanks! I know! I’m still practicing part time as a family physician and part time obesity medicine, amazing how many patients I see with preventable diseases like diabetes and fatty liver, lots of hispanic patients with these issues
