Earlier this month the Ham Radio Winter Field Day took place at Lawson Lake County Park, bringing together 21 amateur radio enthusiasts from all over the capital region. Organized by the Winter Field Day Association, this annual event offered a unique opportunity for radio operators to set up portable stations in winter conditions. ❄️ In Waldman Lodge, there was a 4-station setup with antennas covering 160, 80, 40, 20, 10, 6, and 2 meters. The radios included the Elecraft K-3 and K3S, Yaesu FTDX10 and Icom IC-7100. Stay tuned to see the results, and we look forward to hosting this event again next year! 📻

"Move Your Way Albany County" kicked off at @Crossgates_Mall with a walk and health fair to get everyone moving 22 minutes a day and doing some muscle strengthening exercises. You can use things around the house like canned goods as weights or walking in the mall.

Albany County is committed to supporting local businesses that seek to grow and expand. Faith Creative Names is a woman-owned, Black-owned business that specializes in charter school uniforms, custom apparel, and other personalized merchandise. Through the Advance Albany County Alliance’s Al Tech Loan Fund we provided $135,000 to support the purchase of their storefront from the company's previous landlord. This is a major step in their rapid growth, and a testament to their thriving business. I wish them continued success in the years to come! @albanyalliance

Albany County employees are dressed in red today in support of National Wear Red Day! Heart disease is a leading cause of death among Americans, especially women. By raising awareness for cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, and strokes, we can encourage healthy living and prevent future tragedies. Today, I joined with representatives of the Innovation Partnership—a joint effort between Albany County and MVP Health Care—to announce our support of a new Maria College Community Clinic. Together we are making a total investment of $150,000 to support this project. This clinic aims to alleviate pressure on Albany Med’s emergency room by offering accessible healthcare services to the community, particularly underserved and vulnerable populations. It will also provide valuable learning opportunities for future healthcare professionals. @mariacollege @MVPHealthCare @RizzoForAlbany @AlbanyCountyDA

February is National Cancer Prevention Month. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in New York State, but it doesn’t have to be. Make changes to take charge of your health and lower your risk for cancer or find it early when it can be easier to treat.

Today, I joined with Governor Kathy Hochul as she announced the new ON-RAMP program, a $200 million investment in workforce hubs that will provide training in tech skills as well as hands-on training in advanced manufacturing industries. I am proud to say that we will be hosting one of these hubs at the former College of Saint Rose Campus, focusing on the unemployed and underemployed in the Capital Region’s core cities of Albany, Schenectady and Troy. I look forward to working alongside Governor Hochul, community leaders, local businesses, and our residents as we look to unlock the full potential of this campus. @GovKathyHochul @albanynyleg @MayorSheehan @capregchamber @unitedwaygcr @amromero109 @johnmcdonald108 @PatriciaFahy46

Today, we celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, recognizing the incredible achievements, dedication, and resilience of athletes in our community. Sports empower individuals, build confidence, and teach teamwork-qualities that are important on and off the field. In our Parks and Recreation programs we see these impacts first hand, and Albany County remains committed to ensuring everyone has access to recreational opportunities. I would like to thank Deputy Commissioner Allie Robert for her work coordinating these important programs!
