@cremieuxrecueil Could be “good” if before things are about to break, they put 80% or 90% of the funding back, so it wakes people up or whatever. But still not thinking it’s a good strategy, brinksmanship has very widely known down sides lol.

@cremieuxrecueil This is different than turn off something specific, or a unique combo of things, but more like, “bulldoze my house and see what breaks” lol

@NTFabiano There’s a double standard here. Many report rat studies as promising when a drug has a good effect on rats. But I sometimes wonder if these are the same folks saying that a drug isnt probably dangerous because the effect only occurs in rat studies. Probably mostly different folks

@ZhangTaisu @DuncanCorbin Is a great increase in power falling to an authoritarian state a bad thing? Argue for and against

@alz_zyd_ I think that and the useful complexity thing are good points but doesn’t refute that in potentially large (or small) unknown range of cases, the source text will be important. It’s kind of just a guess whether it’s important or not in general

@alz_zyd_ How’s the originality? I always wonder if box-checking folks come in and destroy all the metrics, but those who don’t care about box checking and rather just produce/think/inquire for the joy of it might show up poorly in grades or tests but produce and pursue fresh questions
