In Memoriam Claudio Abbado (1933 – 2014)
On the tenth anniversary of his passing, we remember the great Italian conductor Claudio Abbado. His unparalleled contributions to musical life and to our Festival in particular never cease to fill us with admiration and gratitude.
Lucerne Festival mourns pianist Maurizio Pollini who passed away today at the age of 82 years.
For more than forty years, our Festival has been blessed to regularly welcome Pollini with numerous solo recitals and concerts with both the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the Academy.
Lucerne Festival joins music lovers worldwide in mourning the passing of conductor Seiji Ozawa (1935 – 2024).
Ever since his Lucerne debut with the Schweizerisches Festspielorchester in 1972, Ozawa had been a regular and most welcome guest at our Festival.
Lucerne Festival has decided to cancel the concerts by the Mariinsky Orchestra and Valery Gergiev that were scheduled for 21 and 22 August.
Lucerne Festival will announce the new programs and performers for these two concerts at a later date.
Yesterday
@igorpianist
launched his
@LucerneFestival
cycle of all 32 of the piano sonatas by Beethoven. This grand project continues at the 2019 Piano Festival, extending until 2020, when the music world will celebrate the composer’s 250th birthday.

A very emotional evening! 90-year-old
#BernardHaitink
gave his last concert tonight
@Vienna_Phil
. After a 65 year conducting career, Haitink will take a sabbatical. Thanks for many special moments and unforgettable concert experiences!
Happy Birthday, Claudio Abbado 💙
As we remember the great conductor, born
#otd
in 1933, we think about his admiration for the
#LucerneFestivalAcademy
which is celebrating its 20th anniversary: "What Boulez built with the Academy is the most important thing for the festival."
Unfortunately, András Schiff has to withdraw from his performance with the
@ConcertgbOrkest
this Friday due to health reasons.
We are pleased to announce that
@SeongJinCho
will perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 in his place and we wish András Schiff a speedy recovery.
Today, 26 June 2023, the charismatic Italian conductor Claudio Abbado would have celebrated his 90th birthday 🩵
Join us in remembering and honoring this most extraordinary musician who left an unparalleled mark on the musical life of today.

Today we remember the incomparable Claudio Abbado who left us exactly nine years ago.

Magical.
First Rehearsal for our upcoming Festival „Life is Live“: What a feeling, to be back on stage with friends of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and great conductor Herbert Blomstedt, hearing the first tones of Beethoven. Goose bumps and gratefulness! ❤️🙏

Lucerne Festival is deeply saddened by the passing of the incomparable Bernard Haitink who was closely connected to the festival and shaped it over many decades.
What a sad weekend. Just one day after losing Maurizio Pollini, we also have to say goodbye to Hungarian composer Péter Eötvös (1944–2024).
One of contemporary music's leading figures, Eötvös had been a regular guest at our Festival since 1987 both as a composer and as conductor.
Today would have been Claudio Abbado's 86th Birthday. He will always have a place in our hearts. ❤️
What are your unforgettable moments and memories?

What a harmonic meeting! The
@DivanOrchestra
's Lucerne Festival concert marked only the second joint performance of
@DBarenboim
and Igor Levit. But it seems the two of them found a shared musical paradise – just listen to their interpretation of Beethoven's Piano concerto No. 1.
Brahms' Second Piano Concerto is beautiful, no question, but incredibly difficult to play! Igor Levit however, showed no fear and rose to the challenge. With the
@Vienna_Phil
and conductor Jakub Hrůša he of course had two of the finest supporters in the world at his side.
Lucerne Festival is deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Lars Vogt.
He has been a regular guest at our festival since 1999 and we will remember him as a great pianist and a most wonderful human being. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
What a special moment: The

Kirill Petrenko then introduced us to Josef Suk's moving and deeply personal orchestral gem "A Summer’s Tale".
When talking about his Seventh Symphony, Anton Bruckner recalled that some of the music occurred to him in a dream.
It certainly was a dream come true to hear the
