Eraser A 🧵 by Long T. Standing To many, the idea of not knowing their nation’s history seems impossible. For Ukraine, it is a war they are fighting—the right to remember. The right to sing the songs their parents sang to them as children—songs that are now illegal under Russian occupation. This kind of erasure isn’t new. History has seen it before. The Catholic Church once banned literacy, Latin, mathematics, and science. They rewrote history, replacing truth with dogma, genociding entire cultures until only dusty footnotes remained. They left behind a proud but ignorant and illiterate people—one that took centuries to regain the ability to read and write, to reclaim the knowledge that was stolen from them. The British, Americans, Spanish, and French all participated in erasure, stretching deep into tropical islands and foreign lands. They destroyed cultures under the guise of “civilizing savages” while exploiting their land, resources, and labor. The world has seen this before. But Russia goes further. They do not just rape and slaughter the children of Ukraine. They steal them. They brainwash them, erase their identities, rewrite their names and their pasts. They replace their real memories with manufactured ones, raising them as Russians—so they will never know they were Ukrainian at all. And the world watches. The world debates how much aid is too much, how far the strikes should go. The world does not care about Ukraine’s songs, its land, or its people. The world only cares about not provoking Russia. As if you can stop a predator by being afraid of it. You cannot negotiate with rapists. You cannot beg for mercy from those who see erasure as a tactic of war. The systematic cultural, linguistic, and historical destruction of Ukraine is not collateral damage—it is the objective. Russia has declared it outright: they want Ukraine to disappear. And yet the world waits. Foreign volunteers fight, but foreign armies do not. North Korea arms Russia, but the West will not put troops on the ground. Why not? Because they fear escalation. Like a mother who was raped by her father, hoping he will not do the same to her daughter. He will. If you leave her alone with him, he will. Erasure is erasure. Some say this is just the nature of humanity: the strong fight to survive. But that is a lie. The truth is, most people just want to live—not conquer, not enslave. This war is not about strength. It is about willing ignorance. “It’s tragic,” they say. “It’s not my child stolen. It’s not my home bombed. It’s not my land, my water, my language.” So they do nothing. Perhaps instead of asking Russia to stop, they should make them stop. Instead of debating munitions, send the soldiers to fire them. Instead of excuses, demand results. Demand the return of the children. Russia steals children because they are dying. Their birth rates are collapsing. Even nature is telling them: you do not deserve to survive. They steal genetic material, they legalize child pornography, they legalize domestic violence. They do not create, they take. They cannot grow wheat, so they steal Ukraine’s. They cannot mine their own resources, so they invade. They cannot even bear enough children to sustain their future, so they steal them. They believe this will save them. It will not. It may delay their collapse, but it will not prevent it. Because they are dying from their own choices. It is easy to look away. It is easy to be safe behind superpower borders and say, “We have our own problems.” But all that does is support Russia’s erasure. Looking away enables them to rape, steal, erase, and rewrite. There is no red line. There is nothing they will not do. And the longer the world allows it, the more dangerous Russia will become. They will not stop with Ukraine. They will mine its land, control its resources, feed off its stolen power, and then march forward. How many nations has Russia already broken this way? How many more will NATO wave goodbye to, watching from a distance, relieved that it wasn’t their land this time? Some will ask, “Why should I care?” To them, I say this: Tyranny is not stopped by looking away. It will find you. It will choke you. It will steal your children. And by then, it will be too late. Because Russia is not just fighting Ukraine. Russia is fighting against its own extinction. It is a war against nature itself. A war against evolution. And if the world does not stop them now, they will come back stronger—with an entire nation’s erased future behind them. And still, it will never be enough. Because the ones who refuse to evolve always choose destruction. Not just for themselves. But for everyone.

Meanwhile soldiers serving in Ukraine prefer our civilian population to remind us what we fight for, and that our ongoing fight is sustaining the populations ability to live and look nice. Soldiers love pretty ladies, even female soldier's, we all love pretty ladies and adorbs kids. When I see a Ukrainian women looking amazing it is great she is trying to live, under attack, she reminds us all to live and be our best selves. This judgement people have over not wanting to see anything positive come out of Ukraine, and demonizing positivity is because they might be helping, they are not here fighting, or else they would know better then to say stupid shit like that person to you Kate. I have seen this sudo-give-a-shit before. They support you until you no longer make them feel good then they tear you down and try to explain how they are just trying to help you because your not being a very good person.
