The new Open Restaurant program has dismantled 90% of roadway dining in NYC. Data is clear - the new approach is too costly and bureaucratic for restaurants to make work. It’s time to restore Outdoor Dining and a more dynamic streetscape for all of us to enjoy.
Exclu!. Over 44% of New York City restaurant operators said in a poll released Wednesday that they wouldn’t offer outdoor dining because of soaring government fees and a confusing application process. via @haleybrownNYC

This is disgraceful. The Mayor refuses to condemn:.- end of birthright citizenship.- insurrection on Jan 6 .- dropping out of global Paris climate agreement . This is anathema to New York City values. Eric Adams is no Democrat. He cares about nothing more than his pardon.
.@nycmayor will not say if agrees or disagrees with Trump's executive orders to pardon Jan6 rioters, to withdraw from Paris Agreement or to end birthright citizenship. Adams says executive orders are about "the balance of power" says if he disagrees he'll let Trump know directly.

There is zero evidence that conducting subway bag checks advances public safety. Instead of wastefully deploying 750 national guard troops, I wish the Governor did something helpful - like fund 750 safe haven shelter beds to move homeless people from the subways into housing.
New: Gov. Hochul announces that she is deploying 750 National Guard members into the NYC subways to conduct bag checks, in addition to another 250 law enforcement members. She is also proposing a bill to ban people convicted of a violent crime on the subway from public transit.

I’m calling on @NYCCFB to immediately cease plans to distribute any public matching funds to the Eric Adams 2025 campaign and demand refunds for illegal 2021 contributions. The Mayor’s indictment shows a complete disregard for our campaign finance laws.

Over 7,000 New Yorkers signed the petition to Make McGuinness Safe - overwhelmingly residents of Greenpoint. If you were actually committed to street safety, you would show it.
Add to the list of electeds @NYCMayor very publicly dislikes: @LincolnRestler. Asked about the reversal on the McGuinness redesign, the mayor asks who the councilmember is — an answer he likely knew.

I just formally introduced our placard legislation in the @NYCCouncil!. Anyone who visits Downtown Brooklyn knows that placard abuse is rampant: the personal cars of government officials block sidewalks & bike lanes all day long. It’s unsafe, it’s corrupt, and it needs to stop.

There needs to be a comprehensive review of recent promotions within NYPD.
. NEW: Tim Pearson's nephew, a cop with just two arrests in four years, was placed on a career fast track in Internal Affairs in less than two years and promoted to detective in April all while his uncle was at City Hall.

Pick up trucks are 7x more likely to cause fatality than a compact car in a collision. Yet three quarters of all new vehicles purchased in USA were large SUVs & pick up trucks. It’s time for concerted effort to dramatically reduce the presence of these vehicle in New York City.
The Economist just published a deeply-researched story about car bloat, and it's very, very damning:. "For every life that the heaviest 1% of SUVs and trucks save, there are more than a dozen lives lost in other vehicles.". Well worth your time:

Proud to be the lead sponsor on this legislation to finally get illegal, reckless parking under control. This bill will make our streets and sidewalks demonstrably safer for pedestrians and cyclists. NYPD has refused to enforce, so it’s time to empower New Yorkers!.
Well, this is interesting:. In NYC, a new bill would invite residents to submit photos of cars blocking bike lanes, schools, and sidewalks -- and then receive 25% of each $175 ticket.

🚗 NEW: We’re introducing 2 bills to end placard abuse. For too long, our City has allowed tens of thousands of city, state & federal employees to abuse their placards every damn day. It’s petty corruption & it’s wrong. Read my op-ed in @StreetsblogNYC ⬇️

NYC is the greatest city on earth. All City government workers should be required to reside in New York City - from agency heads to rank and file staff.
NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell opposes residency requirement for cops, at @CrainsNewYork. Says officers have investment in the neighborhoods where they *work* and that’s enough for her. Confirms that she herself lives in Nassau County, “like six or seven blocks in.”

Atlantic Ave is finally getting safer!. Check out @NYC_DOT’s new mid block crossings between Henry & Clinton and Clinton & Court. Shortening blocks reduces speeding & makes it easier for pedestrians to cross. This builds on 3 new mid-block crossings on Atlantic in Boerum Hill.

I support year round outdoor dining. We can and must improve regulations of outdoor dining to mitigate noise, sanitation and flooding issues, but we should maintain a year round program that has been a boon to restaurants and the dynamism of our streets.
NEW: Restaurateurs, advocates beg Council to keep all-year roadside dining. "If we have to take it down in the winter, there’s no putting that stuff back up," one restaurant owner told me. "I think that’s just a way for them to get rid of it."

Is anyone surprised to hear that Mayor Adams would rejoin the Republican Party?. He has spent three years parroting Republican talking points and aligning himself with the GOP members of the City Council.
Mayor Eric Adams, asked by @JamieStelter on NY1 if he'd consider becoming a Republican again after his positive statements about Trump, doesn't say no: "The party that's most important for me is the American party. I love this country.".

Eric Adams appears to care only about his pardon. We need a Mayor who cares about New Yorkers.
.@NYCMayor declines to opine on Trump's pick of.@mattgaetz as AG. "[Trump's] choosing those who understand his vision." . Adams says during TV interview it was key to bring on Elon Musk to institute efficiency measures. "Govt has to change. It's not serving ppl correctly".

How can fare evasion lead to this brutal violence?. No NYPD training would ever recommend an officer shoot their gun because someone skipped out on a fare. Horrible judgement by this officer led to another cop and members of the public getting shot. Full investigation needed.
Earlier today, one of our officers was shot while protecting our subway system. I am relieved to report he is in good condition now, and we have arrested the suspect who put so many lives in danger. I cannot thank these officers enough for their bravery.

Congestion pricing will fund subway and bus improvements with billions of dollars of new, much needed revenue. It will also relieve traffic congestion, improve air quality, and reduce emissions in NYC. Let’s get it done!.

If Mayor Adams cared about helping families enroll in 3K and PreK, he would invest in it. Instead - he has decimated the outreach program and cut over $1B from early childhood education.
Eric Adams says the 3K system was "so screwed up it boggles your mind" and the city needs to match seats with kids. Nearly two years in, he says: "We should have been knocking on doors saying your baby needs to be in 3K." (Yes, that's what advocates say he's not doing.).

My colleague in the City Council is comparing the attempted extermination of the Jewish people and many other persecuted groups to a vaccine that will save lives. This is not okay.

Let me help - the answer is hell no. It’s wildly inappropriate for taxpayers to be footing the bill to defend the alleged serial sexual harassment by Tim Pearson. Mayor has not even slapped his close friend Tim Pearson on the wrist. Tim continues to supervise staff today.
Is it proper for the NYC taxpayer to bankroll lawyers defending a top @NYCMayor @ericadamsfornyc aide accused of harassment outside scope of official duty? . Assemblywoman @JeniferRajkumar promises to do legal research and provide answer within the week.

As a member of the Jewish Caucus - I have absolutely no idea what he could be referencing. 80% of the Jewish Caucus voted for the bill. The How Many Stops Act will bring much needed oversight & accountability to NYPD and I am eager to help overturn his impending veto.
At a Queens Bar Mitzvah, Adams told guests they needed to "rally with the Jewish Caucus" against the How Many Stops Act, that "must not be able to become a law," @SallyGold scoops. It's just part of his lobbying effort against two law enforcement bills:.

We should shutter this helipad. Our climate crisis necessitates that we eliminate nonessential helicopter travel that causes noise & pollution across our city. Whether providing flights for the uber-elite to get to the Hamptons or tourist travel, it has no business in NYC.

Today, due to Mayor’s latest draconian budget cuts - schools are forced to cut $1B midyear & thousands 3K & pre-k spots are gone. Libraries end Sunday hours next month. Parks, CUNY, housing - all cut. Revenue is up, reserves are steady, & Mayor keeps making deeply harmful cuts.
🚨from the PC: Budget Cuts Will Worsen City’s Affordability Crisis, Delay Economic Recovery & Harm New Yorkers. “As more New Yorkers struggle to afford skyrocketing rents, childcare & healthcare, @nycmayor is recklessly slashing the City programs New Yorkers rely on most.”.

Forcing employees into sexual acts for overtime pay. It’s repugnant. This is a disturbing pattern of corruption, abuse of power, & harassment across the senior ranks of the Adams administration. And the mismanagement of NYPD has undermined public safety in our City.

This is the take of a white person who doesn’t have to worry for the safety of his family when they are pulled over by police. I’m relieved @dr_yusefsalaam & his family are okay. On Tuesday, we’ll be voting to override Mayor’s veto to ensure greater oversight of all NYPD stops.
This is damning: an elected official with illegal tints and out-of-state plates, not legally registered, using his official title to evade the law. Worse yet, he lied about the exchange until NYPD set the record straight. CM Salaam should resign as Public Safety Chair.

How is this person still employed by the City of New York?. Mayor Adams’ decision to turn a blind eye to this cronyism is disgraceful. Tim Pearson does not belong in public service and he does not deserve a taxpayer funded attorney for his alleged serial sexual harassment.
Tim Pearson met w/ the PD's Internal Affairs chief and an IAB Inspector soon after a purge of cops in a mayoral unit who have since sued him for retaliation. “The timing suggests it was the start of retaliation against my clients,” their lawyer says.

In May, I held a hearing to hold the Adams Administration accountable for their severe mishandling of Tim Pearson’s sexual harassment cases. Lisa Zornberg tried to intimidate me - requesting I be investigated for my line of questioning. Glad she came to her senses.
