The new Labour government will finally bring our railway into PUBLIC OWNERSHIP, backed by 67% of the public
Great British Railways will be publicly owned holding company for rail franchises as private sector contracts expire
Scotland voted 62% to stay. Every authority voted to stay but we were told that didn't matter. We didn't matter. Scotland didn't matter. Imagine for a moment it had been the other way round.
Rubbish. Scotland tackled knife crime because it had the powers to do so and it worked. We get visitations from around the world to see how we did it. Knife crime in England is horrendous and growing. Westminster is denying Scotland the powers to do the same with drugs.
With more A grades than ever but a continuing attainment gap, do you have confidence in Scotland's exams results?

A former SNP MP who quit the party following an investigation into alleged mortgage fraud has been nominated as a candidate for their East Lothian seat.
Yet another Unionist press release is presented as news by BBC Scotland. Labour and the Tories have been feeding the broadcaster similar press releases all week. Tonight's Reporting Scotland contained the latest.
In Scotland every pupil sits the same exam. The exams are marked by agreed criteria decided in markers’ meetings. As a teacher I was horrified to learn there were easy and harder A levels in England and no consistency between examining boards.
Just to say that the BBC do not show the detailed question and answer sessions after the daily 12.30 update by FM and team. They are detailed answers and a lot can be learned from them. Better to go on Twitter to
@Scotgov
which shows the full session each day live.
Boris Johnson spends £900,000 of taxpayers money for a Union Flag to be painted on a plane. Nicola Sturgeon spends £10 of her own money (£2 of it goes to the charity Shelter) for a tartan face covering. Guess which one the Gammon media has a problem with?
I took this yesterday morning. I think it is one of the best views in Scotland - Stirling with the castle watching over the city while snow covered Ben Vorlich and Stuc a’Chroin stand proud behind. The blush of the morning sunrise was the icing on the cake.
Just did a programme for Canal+ on Braveheart. Still a huge interest abroad in the Braveheart Phenomenon. Maybe that’s why it was attacked in the first place. Don’t remember ever being told in school that Shakespeare’s Macbeth was historically incorrect.
@ScotNational
It's a distraction. Let's just shrug, accept some folk campaign differently from others – doesn't make it ess legitimate – and move on. Ther's plenty more important issues to get riled about. Besides, Braveheart introduced many folk in other countries to Scotland.
So thrilled to be included in the longlist for the McIlvanney Scottish Crime book of 2020 among established authors and welcome newcomers via big publishers and home grown Scottish ones. So many great books to read!

On this day: The Declaration of Arbroath, thought by many to be the most important and influential document in Scottish history, was dated 6 April 1320. More pics and info:
Laura Maxwell says anyone in Scotland earning over £28,867 will pay more tax than if they lived elsewhere in the UK. This isn't true. They'll pay more income tax. They'll almost certainly pay less council tax, which means for some, less tax overall not more.
Just back Aviemore. Everyone wearing masks in shops. Lots of tourists there. All following the rules. Some of the kids' masks were great. I would have loved to be told to wear a mask as a kid. 😊
Another Irish referendum with another vote for enlightenment. Another election keeping the Irish Presidency in the hands of a civilised, arts loving man. Is it too late for me to find a long lost Irish granny and keep my EU passport?

Burns Night at Tornasheen Carrbridge on Sunday night. English, Scottish, Irish, Canadian and Estonian in the Highlands of Scotland. There will be fiddle, guitar and voice. We are a mongrel nation and that is our strength.
"This, in Aberdeen, should be the biggest wake up call since the early days of this pandemic. Melbourne and Spain has seemed far away, but it can happen here and it IS happening here. Take this as the biggest, loudest warning that the infection is still there":

Feels like some light at the end of the tunnel. 0 deaths reported in Scotland & some kind of normality with people in cafes, kids playing football in parks & in holiday camps & widespread use of face coverings in shops. Fragile situation which we must work hard to maintain.
Not all your generation... in Scotland they didn't.
I was the first of my family to be able to go to university. I want the same for those who follow. Am passionate about it. Access to education. Access to libraries.
@OrendaBooks
@Lin_Anderson
It's the most shameful thing that my generation - who had free university education including maintenance grants - took that away from those who followed on after us.
‘I believe the people of this country are basically Tories even if they sometimes vote Labour,’ says Steve Baker on BBC news just now. And that is what they really think. The entitlement! Let’s prove him and the rest of them wrong. He’s also announcing his own leadership bid?
