Today’s lesson: Chondrodysplasia Punctata/Conradi-Hünermann Syndrome Conradi-Hünermann syndrome (CHS), a subtype of Chondrodysplasia Punctata, is primarily found in females due to it being X-linked dominant, which tends to be lethal in male fetuses, causing spontaneous miscarriages. For this reason, most males do not survive past early gestation, and the condition is much more frequently observed in females. Conradi-Hünermann syndrome affects skeletal development, skin, and hair, and because males with severe forms often do not survive to birth, females account for the vast majority of living cases. Conradi–Hünermann syndrome is a rare type of chondrodysplasia punctata. It is associated with the EBP gene and affects between one in 100,000 and one in 200,000 babies. This is what I have. My birth name is Anthony, and on April 28th 1994 I survived impossible odds, and now I am, or I was, the oldest male with Conradi-Hünermann syndrome. Now that would make me the oldest Transgender woman with CDP/CHS. 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸 Now, it’s just a theory, but it stands to reason and is highly probable that I survived the impossible odds using estrogen in utero. Research into transgender identity has explored various hypotheses, one of which suggests that prenatal exposure to certain hormones, particularly estrogen and androgens, can influence the development of gender identity. This hormonal interplay could be a factor in explaining why transgender traits manifest early in life for individuals who later identify as trans women, especially if there was a hormonal environment atypical for a typical male fetus. For a male fetus with CHS to survive and thrive into adulthood as a trans woman, the exposure to estrogen could potentially explain both the survival and the early manifestation of gender incongruence. The surviving individual, being assigned male at birth, may have had a natural predisposition to identify as female due to these prenatal conditions, leading to a transgender identity.
