How Mallory and Ryan Met: Ryan’s Version For two weeks back in 2019, a very abused and neglected calf who we named Sophie was here at Life With Pigs. And in that short time, we saw her go from a severely underweight calf who had lice and fleas coating her body and wounds all over as well, to a happy healthy girl that was gaining 3 pounds a day as calves should. Unfortunately, the cruel people who had left her in this condition sent police (who they claimed were their friends) to take Sophie back to the beef farm she was from. I immediately dedicated myself to getting Sophie back, knowing the type of ending that beef cows have and how clearly neglected she was before arriving here. And I reached out to the followers of Life With Pigs to help in any way they could. And this woman named Mallory sent me a message saying she wanted to help. As someone who truly spends a lot of time trying to connect with our global family, I felt I remembered seeing her comment on posts in the past. But, this was the first time she had directly communicated with me. And then she sent a chart of all the places we could reach out to in an effort to get pressure applied to get Sophie back. The amount of work she had put into it was amazing. And to this day, I am constantly in awe of how dedicated Mallory is to the things she’s passionate about. But, I won’t life. My first reaction may have been ‘Wow! This will be so helpful.’ But my second reaction was, ‘What if she’s a stalker?’ And to this day, Mallory occasionally jokes with me, “Hey, you’re the one that married your stalker!” And that is what initially drew us together: The passion to save a little calf named Sophie. But as I got to know her better I realized just how much we had in common, how much we enjoyed talking to each other, how wonderfully intelligent she is, and of course I couldn’t miss the fact that she was gorgeous with that beautiful auburn hair. Not to mention, her eyes. Six years later, I still get lost in her eyes at random times of the day. So, add that to her amazing ability to creatively work together with me to change the world for animals, I knew I’d found my person. And had it not been for the poor little cow Sophie, we likely never would have ended up together. And speaking of my beautiful Valentine (Mallory), today is the last day to get your mystery Valentine from one of our animals for yourself or a loved one. So be sure to do that on our webpage now! Sweetheart, there is a cow at the door for you! Jenna got tired of waiting for dinner and made it clear my that I better get a move on it. Sure she’s got some hay out there but she prefers me to hand deliver fresh stuff at the appropriate time. And the time had passed according to her. So, I’m on my way!

The cows say “no” to having the window closed. Jenna and Maisie are two trouble makers but they are so cute, we can’t be mad at them. Both girls were born on dairy farms and are just regular cows who have already lived longer (at 6 years old) than they would have on the farm if they had stayed. Every animal is an individual with a personality - I wonder how many more Jenna and Maisie’s are killed or harmed every day on farms, whose amazing personalities will never be shown to anyone?

Did you know that pigs love to snuggle? Pumpkin, Charlotte, and Millie love to get cozy in their bed and piles of soft blankets. Every night we find them in different positions of snuggles - either spooning, sleeping nose to nose, or in three neat rows. Pigs aren't different than dogs, cats, or even humans, in any way that really matters. So please keep them in your heart and off of your plate! They want to live, be happy, and snuggle with loved ones, just like we do.

Mud has been an ongoing nightmare, and our rescued animal family needs your help! With all the rain, deep mud has been a serious issue—putting our animals' feet at risk, and complicating our treatment of Bonnie's arthritis. Last year, Phase 1 helped clear out the worst of the mud near Jenna and Maisie’s sleeping and eating area. Now, we’re moving into Phase 2: installing heavy-duty mats in high-traffic areas to give our animals safe, stable footing. This will be a huge step toward protecting their feet and ensuring they stay comfortable while we work toward Phase 3, a professional drainage system. This will enable Bonnie to always have a solid walking surface, regardless of the weather. And we won't need to decide between keeping her locked away during bad weather days, or letting her out and risking her navigating difficult terrain. We need your support! Every donation brings us closer to keeping our sanctuary safe. Can you help? ❤️

While luring the sheep into their barn to do Bonnie’s lasering, somebody decided their wanted some of my bait (the treats I was luring the sheep with). Only Annie thought she was permeable and could move through solid objects. She got her head through, but the rest of her body was not so ghostly and she got stuck. I dialed 911 (aka Mallory) to keep Jenna distracted, because what would be funnier to Jenna than poking Annie’s butt while she was stuck. This could have been very bad given Annie’s predicament despite Jenna’s noble intentions. All ended well, as I helped Annie free herself and lessons were learned all around (we hope). 🤷🏼 But a few extra Valentines might make Annie feel better, so don’t forget to get your last minute orders in on our website to be part of our Mystery Valentines Day event! Sunday is the last day ♥️ Sign up here:

Sammy the Pebble is back outside after hanging in the house with us during those colder weeks. It was really nice this week, and even got up to 72 yesterday, and Sam was restless so we let him go back outside. In his defense, he wasn’t ready for it to drop down to 39 today and just came walking out of his heated house this morning like it ain’t no thing. But, we were ready for him this time (the main reason we brought him inside to begin with was because of his previous temperature choices) and scooted him back to where it’s warm. If it stays cooler like this for a bit then we will bring him back inside with us. (Secretly I do miss him being in here!)

Jenna's big goofy cow head is heavy! So today, I thought I'd do Bob Dylan's 'Life a Rolling Stone' and I realized that balancing Jenna's loving chin while trying to keep the pace of the song was going to be a challenge. But it was fun regardless, and Tunetastic Tuesday is never about getting things perfect. So, I hope you enjoy this weeks song and especially enjoy my lovely best friend and her beautifully adorned horns! Support our sanctuary at

Today for rescued animal story time, Jenna got to listen to All the Ways I Love You. And she was adorable and cuddly the whole time. How did I get so lucky to have her as my best friend. #cow #cows #jennathecalfwholived #lifewithpigs #rescueanimalstorytime #allthewaysIloveyou
