That is the real lesson here. The failure of NERL isn’t just about one canceled project—it’s about the larger refusal to build transit as a system. To take what’s already in place and make it work better, instead of spending decades arguing over whether it’s worth trying. New Jersey deserved better then. And it sure as hell deserves better now.
