Two weeks ago Brooke Rollins sparked outrage by pledging to help wipe out state anti-cruelty laws. This week the Senate Ag Committee *unanimously* approved her. Today the Senate will likely confirm her. A great week for pork industry lobbyists. A terrible week for pigs.
Today Trump's USDA nominee, Brooke Rollins, told Congress that she will force states to allow the sale of pork from crated pigs. States banned these sales to stop animal cruelty. The conservative Supreme Court upheld those bans. Only pork industry lobbyists want this change.

This is a brazen ploy by the pork industry and its paid-for politicians. They plan to overturn popular state bans on cruel gestation crates for pigs through the byzantine Farm Bill. They’re really hoping you won’t notice this.
He is correct... and one of the most egregious examples of crony capitalism is the corrupt alliance between the Chinese-owned Smithfield Foods and senators like @SenJoniErnst , who are trying to push through a backhanded deal to FORCE gestation-crated pork back onto states which have already voted to ban it. Pay attention to the "Farm Bill" they're trying to sneak in through Brooke Rollins - it's a complete f-you to Republican values of states' rights of self determination, it hurts small farmers, and it is terrible for American health.

This isn’t just about Rollins. It’s part of a bigger pork industry plan to force all states to legalize crates. Their plan is to do this through the giant Farm Bill, where no one will notice. Their leaders are Senators Boozman, Ernst, and Marshall. They must be stopped.

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen hates big government, but thinks "there are places where government needs to step in and protect us." One such place is protecting meat producers from competition by banning cultivated meat. Coincidentally, Gov. Jim Pillen is a meat producer.

How to assess this progress? I’m frustrated that some companies are slow-walking their pledges. But I’m also impressed that others are making good on their pledges. Thanks to them, 100M+ more hens are now out of cages than were a decade ago. That's worth celebrating.

We assume everyone knows their meat is from factory farms yet buys it anyway. But <20% of Americans are aware that most meat, eggs and dairy products found in stores come from factory farms, per a 2023 ASPCA survey. Factory farms thrive on this public deception.

Even when institutional animal abuse is illegal, local prosecutors often refuse to enforce the law. So it's great to see a Wisconsin judge appoint a special prosecutor to do so after the local DA refused to. A precedent-setting win for @waynehhsiung and his team.
