THREAD 🧵 New names Liverpool academy 2024/25: Several players who have yet to forge name amongst first-team that I think have the potential to have interesting seasons either in the academy or on loan. The up-and-coming talents at a top club are obvious to see for the casual viewer with markers met such as first-team appearances or simply being named in the match-day squad. Liverpool, this season, have utilised the academy more handedly than previous with cup-runs and injury initiated space supplemented by the structure and pipeline manned by Vitor Matos and co. Nine academy debuts were given in the 2023/24 season: Calum Scanlon, Luke Chambers, Jayden Danns, James McConnell, Jarell Quansah, Mateusz Musialowski, Lewis Koumas and Trey Nyoni.

Clae Ewing wasn’t involved in fixtures this weekend. This could point towards involvement in the UEFA Youth League against Stuttgart; a competition in which LFC have played without a natural left-back. Potentially wasn’t viewed as ready, but MAY have played himself into contention. I played briefly I discussed on @TheRedmenTV for the resilience he has shown after missing an entire year through injury last season.

@EyalLampert I do like him on the right, rather than the left at least. Simplifies his game. He obviously could do well as an attacking midfielder, on the ball.

@lfckop46 In terms of what. I think over the course of his Liverpool career, what he’s ticked off and what he is building up to, acknowledging he’s not the finished product. It’s overall, deserved.

Finn Jeltsch (2006) A wildcard in that Jeltsch is yet to feature in this competition. This is mainly due to the fact the centre-back is a fresh faced January incoming. He would be a colossal addition to the heart of the backline given his already impressive feats at just 18. A German youth international, an U17 and U19 captain at Nuremberg the domineering centre-back has 31 Bundesliga 2. appearances and he is a European and World Champion for Germany at youth level. He has been lauded for his defensive acumen, with the German youth set-up voicing the opinion that there have been perhaps too much focus on the technical side of the game in recent defenders and they welcome a player like Jeltsch, who excels in ball-winning. A front foot defender. He’s thrust into the first-team squad already in the Bundesliga, but he could get proper minutes here to see him tick over.

@LFC476 Fair point but Kone-Doherty also equally deserves an opportunity for me. He’s really worked his way through each rank.

A Trent Kone-Doherty debut would be very good. He’s a player that has really bided his time where his age mates have gotten opportunities and he’s not really been too far behind in terms of performances. Was told there was loan interest this Jan expect he’ll have one for Summer.

Mabaya is back in and around the first-team under Arne Slot without making a significant dent yet. Just cover but good for a player who has had a torrid time with injuries. This thread, nearly 3 years ago, might look different now!

Mini-thread: Isaac Mabaya Mabaya is a 17-year-old natural midfielder who in the last 18 months has rather successfully learned the role of a forward-thinking right-back. Mabaya is one of several youth players to hail from Preston along with Rhys Williams and Luke Chambers.

@LFCApproved Arguable the player of the season in the first half of the season for the 18s. He’s the only first-year scholar to start in the youth league aside from Ngumoha. He’s had a little injury and not quite got back to the same level but getting back there.

Lewis Koumas continues a fine season with a first career brace. So good at finding a gap to get a shot away even with traffic in front of him. 6 goals so far.
