@stillgray Do some research. It’s easy to find. Russian propaganda loves to point to Yugoslavia without context. It’s also the only time that nato acted without the support from UN Security Council

Based on what people are posting it seems like most people think that when we tariff a country that country pays the money. That is not how it works or what tariffs are intended for. I will use a simple example to illustrate. Imagine you are at a grocery store buying a box of strawberries from Mexico. That box costs 5$ at the store and they got it from a wholesaler who paid 4$ for it. That wholesaler got it from a Mexican farm for 3$. Now when the tariff of 25 percent goes in effect the wholesaler will have to pay the us government that 25 percent on 3$. So now he will add that to his cost to the store to make it 4.50. And the store will in turn mark it up and make it 5.50. In the end the consumer is the one paying the price. In an ideal world tariffs are meant to protect domestic production or bring it back by making it more expensive to import thereby reducing demand (you don’t have to have strawberries as often) thereby hurting the foreign economy. But it is not a tax on that country.

@APompliano The countries don’t pay tariffs. People in US will pay more for all the goods we import from those countries.
