I’m so angry & I’m not a criminal barrister. I used to be. I changed areas as a very junior barrister (about 20 years ago) because I feared I wouldn’t be able to pay my rent otherwise. The pay hasn’t increased since. 1996-2023 MP pay increase 247%. Barristers : 0%.

Happy Christmas Twitter. I (seriously) nearly died at midnight. Night hypo (diabetic). Son in same room at hotel and noticed. Husband fast asleep. The toblerone he was giving me from his stocking wasn’t working fast enough. He called 999 and paramedics came. My son is 10 💓🥰

My criminal barrister husband (stage 4 cancer, currently in remission) had life threatening infection but had big sex trial. He had iv injections at hospital 6am and 630pm every day round court. Day of judgment he went to hospital for a week for constant I/v. Lawyers’ lives
A friend passed away Sat. He was also a lawyer who represented my company.
What struck me about his death (other than sadness) is he sent an email about a case right before he died--from the hospital.

I am quite angry at moment - govt etc. Also monumentally sad -beloved cat suddenly died. And today I got a message saying ‘left u sthing on doorstep’ to find beautiful tulips from ex client’s girlfriend to cheer me up (they live close). And suddenly there was a bit of joy 💓

Some cases sap your very soul. I cannot remember last time I felt this drained. Heavy couple of weeks and now I’m opening a bottle, painting my nails and relaxing and talking to my husband for first time in 2 weeks but feels like forever. Cheers 🥂

I swear this has been the longest 2 days of my life. Very very involved and stressful case. Plus imprisoned in room! Worked arse off. Now on way home. Lovely oppo though. Makes ALL the difference in difficult cases. Fight in court. No need outside. Cheers

I speak to many lawyers who put a brave face on things professionally whilst a black cloud hangs over their head. We weren't conscripted to work in law, but sometimes lawyers feel pressure of work, the lack of time with their families and just feel down. Be nicer to one another
