In 1951 Noel Browne tried to introduce decent healthcare for mothers & children. If he had succeeded it would have been the start of universal public healthcare. The Catholic Church, Fianna Fáil & Fine Gael attacked him mercilessly & ensured humane care was not provided.
CEO of Ryanair given a big chunk of time on Morning Ireland to tell the nation how we need to get back to work. I can't think of a less trustworthy source of information, but treated by RTE like he's a legit authority that we need to hear at length.
Noel Browne was inspired by the launch of the NHS in 1948 when he proposed the Mother & Child scheme in 1951. If he had succeeded we would soon have had a full NHS. Never happened. Because FG/FF and the Catholic Church destroyed the scheme. And we still live with that legacy.
Dr Mary Favier of NPHET on Morning Ireland making it very clear that our under-resourced health service is why we need to move to Level 5. We won't have the capacity to cope by end Oct.
Decades of neoliberalism has come home to roost.

Taoiseach Simon Harris has urged that warning signs around the abuse of politicians and public figures be taken seriously 'before the unthinkable happens'
The first person interviewed on the RTE Nine O'clock News report on wage increases wasn't a worker, not a trade union rep, it was...wait for it...a vintner.
Free public transport can be done quickly, reduces the cost of living immediately, benefits those on lowest incomes most, and reduces carbon emissions.
What are they waiting for?
@carldinnen
1. A black man cleaning a statue of a racist.
2. Cleaning work is amongst the lowest paid
3. Black and Asian people are over-represented in low paid cleaning work.
But you got a laugh.
The biggest landlord in the Dáil is currently eulogising Pat McDonagh and explaining why young workers should work for less than the minimum wage.
Of course he is.

A Government Minister just said on national radio that New Zealand having *one* new community case of covid is an argument against a
#ZeroCovid
strategy. I have trolls who are too embarrassed to make such a BS claim.
If RTE did just a couple of days of coverage like this on what's happening in Yemen, the public pressure for sanctions on Saudi Arabia would be overwhelming. And that of course is why it will never happen.
We have a Green Party Minister for the Environment and a Green Party Minister with responsibility for asylum seekers and this is the outcome of their combined efforts.
If you let immigrants into your community like Balbriggan did you'll end up winning national trophies, like Glebe North FC of Balbriggan just did, and then where will you be.
The Palestinian flag will be flown in Leinster House next Tuesday, the day in which Ireland formally recognises the State of Palestine. The decision to fly the flag was confirmed by the Ceann Comhairle Seán O Fearghail following a question from TD Thomas Pringle.
Green Party members: We face climate apocalypse. We must do whatever it takes to stop climate change. WHATEVER IT TAKES!
Me: Challenge capitalism?
GP: Not that.
In December Ursula von der Leyen got a standing ovation in the Dáil from Fianna Fáil, Sinn Féin, Fine Gael, the Greens, Labour and the Social Democrats.
Everyone but PBP. It wasn't difficult to figure her out.
So Eamon Ryan is in favour of legalising cannabis
but is concerned that a vote for legalisation will be defeated so the Greens will vote against.
Makes perfect sense obvs.
Yesterday he threatened escalating carbon taxes to make ordinary people pay for the climate crisis. Today's its ordinary people punished for his collapsing tax haven policies.
Donohoe doesn't get enough attention for how toxic he is.

The candidates for next Taoiseach will include a failed housing minister, a failed health minister and a finance minister who runs the biggest tax haven in the world
Be grand I'd say.
Breathtaking interview by Sarah McInerney. Let's Simon Coveney talk at length, providing political cover for Israel's real time war crimes. Then cuts Richard Boyd Barrett off after just one question when he wouldn't join in with the West's hypocrisy.

Sinn Féin just voted to support a bad Government motion that backed Israel and abandoned the Palestinians.
