He studied in Rome but felt drawn to silence so he could contemplate the love of God quietly. He became a hermit. He wrote a monastic Rule, presenting the balance between prayer and work.

Today we celebrate the Presentation of the Lord, which takes place 40 days after Jesus' birth.
In the Gospel today, Mary and Joseph take Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem and present him to the Lord. This ceremony officially inducts Jesus into Judaism.
