#Gabon is one of the most "HFLD" (high forest low deforestation) countries alongside #Guyana & #suriname . 88% covered in tropical rain forest. Each year we absorb over 100 million tons of CO2 net. Norway has made a first payment to Gabon for increasing net sequestration.

Congratulations to the Technical Director of ⁦ @Parcs_Gabon ⁩ and the CIAR unit who confiscated 200kgs of ivory and 30 elephant tails after a gun battle with poachers in the south of Minkebe National Park this morning. Ivory prices are down but the battle is far from over!

It is an honour to represent Gabon in the High Level Opening Session at COP25. @PresidentABO has worked tirelessly to try to move the international community towards a global commitment to fight against climate change. The Gabonese delegation is working to further his vision.

I am at the PRE-COP in Milan. Ministers are gathered to increase momentum in the run up to #COP26 . In the last week Gabon, the most carbon positive country on earth, has adopted an ambitious new climate law. Ambition is key to our common success. @AlokSharma_RDG @PresidentABO

Our team in the Lekoni Reserve, lead by Dr. Joseph Okouyi and Lucien Massoukou, filmed this albino Grimms duiker, known locally as "Ntsa". Apparently there are several "Ntsa blanc" in this population. @ForetmerGOUVGA

At UNEA, I emphasised the sustainable development and conservation strategies implemented by @PresidentABO , which make Gabon the most carbon positive country, net absorbing over 100 million tons of CO2 annually, with 88% forest cover, 22% of our land and 27% of our seas protected

I spent the weekend in Loango National Park with ⁦ @SamuelLJackson ⁩, who is in Gabon to trace his Benga roots and to make a documentary on the slave trade. We saw lots of elephants in Akaka and were well taken care of by the Loango Lodge staff.

I should have been alongside @PresidentABO at the Future Investment Forum but am confined to my hotel room with #COVID19 - participating remotely via #Twitter . President Bongo insisted on the need for economic transformation that keeps the Congo Basin forests standing.

A leopard ate my shoes and socks! I put my wet shoes out in front of my tent last night in LOURI camp, Loango National Park. A leopard came in the night and chewed them up!

Richard Oslisly with some of the 520 iron and bronze artifacts found in the Iroungou cave in Southern Gabon. This treasure trove is from the 14th and 15th centuries - and is the first record of iron tools from before the colonial era. Now to create an incredible museum display!
