@EtienneFargetMC @SimonLeeWx Yes, something like this! We already have some promising first results but need to properly evaluate it this winter season. Agnes is a perfect start for this!

Wondering how cold jet, warm jet & other high-wind features within winter storms differ, which one causes the highest winds & which is most common? We used #RAMEFI to compile a 19-year climatology & analysed the different characteristics - now open for discussion in @EGU_WCD!

Had an amazing time in Colorado presenting at #AMS2023, visiting @NOAA, @acwinters_wx and his group at @CUBoulder, and @NCAR_Science, meeting many new people, learning about their research and -last but not least- hiking in the snowy Rockies :)
Andreas Fink, @LeaEisenstein and @jung_wx @KITKarlsruhe visited colleagues @NOAA PSL ( last week. On the photo, from left to right: Juliana Dias, Andreas, George Kiladis, Lea, Hyunju, Pragallva Barbanda and Yuan-Ming Cheng.

I'm glad I came early to Colorado to enjoy the awesome winter weather during some hikes before #AMS2023. Tomorrow (Jan, 9) I'll be talking about more unpleasant weather - high-wind features within extratropical cylones. Join the session at 10:45am MST in room 704/706 or online!

The first #winterstorm I remember by name was #Jeanett (20 years ago today!), when my parents had to tie down trees in our garden & I played Monopoly with my brother half the night. It's fascinating to look at it now while working on our #RAMEFI wind feature climatology :)

Our C5 @WavesToWeather paper was published in @EGU_WCD today :) If you are interested in how to identify different causes of high winds within winter storms (incl. #warmjet, #coldjet & cold-frontal convection) using a random forest on observations or gridded data, give it a read!

Today @an_beckert & I gave a talk to the general public for the first time as part of the #CaféMétéorologique in #Bonn. It was great to share our knowledge on #winterstorms & 3D-#visualisation & a nice change from our usual scientific talks! @DWD_presse @WavesToWeather #EMS22
