Yesterday we held a purposeful Team Day at the @AquaticsCentre, one of the iconic #London2012 venues and one of the venues that hosts our inspirational LYG Finals Festival. The day provided an invaluable opportunity to align our vision and build momentum for the year ahead. Key discussions included: 🔹 Reviewing our Strategic Plan to ensure clarity and direction. 🔹 Establishing team priorities to guide our work throughout the year. 🔹 Sessions focused on key areas including Finals Festival, Measuring Impact, School Games and Building to LYG’s 50th Anniversary. Many thanks to our Chair Prof. Geoff Thompson MBE FRSA DL QP JM for joining us for a thought-provoking Q&A. We’re excited to build on LYG's work in 2025 and beyond.

Alex Yee, the world’s most successful triathlete, has had an incredible journey from grassroots to the global stage. Born and raised in Lewisham, Alex’s journey was aided by the opportunities provided by London Youth Games, where he proudly represented his borough in Aquathlon, Cycling, and Cross Country between 2010 and 2014. Fast forward a decade, Alex is now a household name in British sport, celebrated for his outstanding achievements. This year, Alex continued his outstanding journey by producing one of the most iconic moments of #Paris2024, clinching gold in the Men’s Triathlon after a stunning late surge past his rival Hayden Wilde. He capped off the Games by securing bronze with his GB teammates in the Mixed Team Relay and had the honour of being a GB flagbearer during the closing ceremony. In addition to his Olympic triumphs, Alex was crowned World Champion in 2024 in Torremolinos. His stellar year has earned him a nomination for the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year #SPOTY award, with the ceremony taking place tonight, 17 December. Read more about his journey:

Our CEO Andy Dalby-Welsh had the privilege of joining the celebration of Alex Yee's (@Lixsanyee) incredible achievements at the naming of the Alex Yee Ladywell Arena last week. Children from the local schools came and heard how Alex, from his very ordinary roots in Lewisham, has gone on to be the world’s best! It was great to hear how the London Youth Games played its part in Alex’s journey. This reinforced for Andy - and for all of us - the critical importance of grassroots sport. Without these essential opportunities, future talents like Alex Yee might never have the chance of being discovered and reaching their full potential. The purpose of the event was to build on the powerful legacy of the #Paris2024 Paralympic Games and ensure the summer of sport continues to inspire future generations. Reflecting on the day, Sara from Waltham Forest shared “Today has made me feel really good and it’s made me feel really included as well. I especially enjoyed the wheelchair basketball – it felt like everyone was equal and competing at my level, instead of me going to their level. I would love to join a club in wheelchair basketball after today.” (2/2) Read more:
