I'll never forget Michelle Obama saying we need to "plan our joy" in an interview with Oprah. I'm so intentional about planning dates with friends, self care appointments, fitness classes, and trips now. I always have something to look forward to. Keeps me excited about life.

I can't say this enough, but companies are pulling millions of dollars out of thin air to donate to organizations, yet there are significant pay inequities internally & not enough advancement opportunities for Black employees. This needs to be addressed ASAP.

Apply to the job even if you don’t meet every qualification. Studies show women apply if they meet 10/10 requirements whereas men apply if they meet 6/10. Imposter syndrome is real but your ambition is realer. Stop counting yourself out of blessings that have your name on it.

Interview Tip: Remove the phrase "helped with" when speaking on your experience. Saying that actually takes away from the responsibility that you actually did. So instead of saying "helped", think about how you helped? And replace that with a better verb.

The 3 main ways I've improved my life: 1) Being mindful to what I put in my body (food, vitamins, hydration) 2) Being mindful to what I put ON my body (skincare, bodycare, perfume) 3) Creating systems to reduce decision fatigue and improve life experience (am/pm routines)

My manager told me I had an attitude one time. I asked for specific examples. Guess what? He couldn't give me ONE. Checked his bias at the door. The thing is, we (black women) express ourselves differently. Misinterpretation shouldn't result in negative feedback.

If you like your job, focus on developing relationships w/ your boss & coworkers in 2020. Hate to break it to you, relationships at work DO matter. Quality of your work is important, but quality of relationships matter more. Don't ever think you get ahead on your work alone.
