@brownecfm I would be interested to hear more about your view of the impact of viruses on democracy. Functioning democracies have better tools to prevent virus spread. However, viruses can affect cognition, therefore they could affect the result of an election if enough people are infected.

@GuyGadboisGuyG1 It is not a huge line item compared to the military and the impact on the economy is much broader than the military-industrial machine. A healthier and smarter populace is arguably the best investment a country can make. And the NIH provides both via research and via training.

@GuyGadboisGuyG1 Not sure whether or not you are qualified to have an opinion worth sharing on this matter. In any case, the entire scientific enterprise in the US relies largely on the NIH and if you the US was actually in the business to improve their competitiveness, they would fund more R01s.

Perfect timing to recruit scientific talent, especially Canadians currently in the US. Arguably, a 1-month post on Science Careers likely is too short of a timeline for such a prestigious position considering the incredible worldwide talent pool in translational research.

@AIneurolab The end is near for pipetting too I believe. But at least it comes with a nice package called "Bravo'" in like "Bravo, you out-evolved yourself!". AI exposure across various field of work is real. 😬

@jesuisyasmeena @DrDDOM Everything is in the details. We get so many emails, we need a system. My best mentoring experiences were with people that initially wrote compelling emails showing that they read our papers and really understood the challenges and opportunities. They were the great ones.

@DrDDOM For instance, any new PIs that obtain an R01 (or equivalent) within the first 5 years of their position should be considered unequivocally tenure-ready at most R1 institutions. They are top scientist material. Many TPAC members couldn’t (or can’t) pull that with today’s paylines.

This work was possible in part via the funding from the @NIHFunding @NIH Alzheimer’s disease supplement on our NIA R01. This allowed us to pursue a year-long AD mice study. Big thanks to the animal care team @BrownUniversity who shared their experience and provided key support.
