Wes Streeting @wesstreeting needs to lose his post. He’s clueless. Tell me the NHS is run for the benefit of doctors when I can’t get a working computer, working ECG machine, toilet break, lunch break, or a place to properly rest on a night shift.

EXC The NHS is too often run for the benefit of doctors, not of patients, Wes Streeting warns in @theipaper interview alongside Rachel Reeves. He promises a decade-long reform programme to empower patients to take control of their own care. Story:

I’ll bite. I find this absolutely bonkers, and totally demoralising, as much as I respect all AHPs. The bottom post presumably requires >=10 yrs more training. It’s not a fault of PAs. It’s our own fault: why don’t we value our time more… Taken from @MedReddit

Why were a group of practitioners let loose on patients without a defined scope of practice in the first place? IMO @TheBMA filled a gap which urgently needed to be filled Remember they represent doctors who are expected to supervise PAs - their guidance is much appreciated

PAs exemplify an insidious mid-level creep which will overall provide a cheaper but less skilled workforce pay docs better rationalise rotational training for docs (continuity of care balanced with diverse experience) define limits of PA's jobs better + rename them

One thing I’d not quite appreciated with the PA debate and salary - when prescribing rights come in (which I understand is relatively imminent), won’t they then have to start on band 8a on AFC, rather than band 7? Thereby having a starting salary DOUBLE an FY1 (>£50K)?
