#orthotwitter #medtwitter Well, sir, it’s been years since your total shoulder & everything seems like it’s going very well. You have no pain, & great strength & range of motion. X-rays are stable, & there’s no signs of infection. The Bacterium Formerly Known As P. acnes:

Unsolicited advice for new attending surgeons: you don’t get to complain about how the patient is positioned/draped if you were not available to help when the patient was positioned/draped. Either do it yourself, teach/tell others how you want it done, or keep your mouth shut.

Always. Get. The. X-rays. If you’re ever thinking to yourself, should I get X-rays on this patient?—the answer is yes. Even if they have recent normal X-rays, you’re questioning it for some reason (probably pain), and that means they deserve new pictures.

Nothing had prepared me for the rigors, failures, & criticisms of surgical training quite like trying to hold a flashlight for my dad during projects

I trained with several guys who were much shorter/smaller than me. Some of them became hand surgeons. Some did trauma or joints. I also knew several guys bigger/taller than me who became hand surgeons. No correlation between physical size & ability to perform certain surgeries
