People think Harris is further left than she actually is for two reasons. One is the new (to her) left positions she took in the 2020 primary and she has since disowned them, as politicians do. The more important reason is that she is Black.
Walz probably won't hurt Harris much, if at all. But it's a missed opportunity to claim the middle, and she needs to do that to turn a coin-flip election into a safe one.
