Students have been writing messages and condolences to the Royal Family during their lunch break today. For any staff or students wishing to add to this, the book will remain in the new library until the end of the week.

There have been many exciting renovations happening at Longdendale High School. New windows and a decorating programme: made possible due to additional funding, through a successful Condition Improvement Fund bid we made to the DfE. Refreshed spaces for learners to return to!

After a rough first round of fixtures, LHS finally registered their first win last night away at Great Academy Ashton. The score was 4-0, with Riley scoring twice, Oscar and Matt rounding off the scoring. Ethan picked up MOTM. The boys had a fantastic attitude.

Year 7 have made a fantastic start to their first term at Longdendale. Several students received awards this morning for their excellent work in the Summer Reading challenge. Well done to all who took part.

Our Year 7 students didn’t let the weather dampen their spirits this morning as they hiked up Hobson Moor. Great resilience displayed by all of you – well done Year 7!
The cake sale held at break time today was a huge success, with all proceeds going towards “Show Racism the Red Card.” Well done to the Year 11 students who organised this and thanks to all students who showed their support.
Last week we welcomed the ‘Actions have Consequences’ team into school. Greater Manchester Police and the Prison Service delivered a powerful and engaging presentation to Year’s 8 & 10. The students were enthralled by the sessions and learnt some serious but important lessons.
A really positive skills day for our Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh students working on navigation, basic first aid, food planning and kit/tent preparations. Great teamwork and enthusiasm shown by all ahead of their upcoming expedition.

No More Knives visited school today as part of their Tameside tour. Students in all year groups learnt about the danger and consequences of knife crime during interactive and informative sessions.

Longdendale students attended the Green Summit at the Lowry theatre yesterday, where they listened to talks from influential speakers and participated in workshops. They were also privileged to be able to discuss climate change with Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham.

This morning, our Year 11 students in Barcelona have visited the incredible Sagrada Familia. They are currently enjoying some sightseeing in the Gothic Quarter before heading to the Picasso Museum.
We’re challenging students to introduce small changes which will reduce stress leading up to exams. Why not try some journaling? Eat 5 fruit or Veg a day, listen to music or declutter your space. Take on the challenge and let us know what you’re trying!

Our Year 7 girls represented the school wonderfully at the indoor athletics heats in Hyde yesterday evening. Unfortunately they didn't get through to the finals this time but considering they were two athletes down on the night, they performed fantastically well.

As part of our recent Foodbank Appeal, Year 7 student Joel donated a crate of sausages to our local Foodbank. He checked that the donation would be accepted and arranged delivery independent of school. Joel received a Headteacher award for his fantastic demonstration of Respect.

A huge thank you to our amazing catering team for putting on a great traditional British spread today to celebrate the jubilee. We’d say they also had the best decorations and costumes!
Our Spanish trip is well underway with 40 Year 11 students enjoying their first full day in Barcelona. Today they plan to visit La Boquería, Las Ramblas, Port Vell and Montserrat. The weather is fantastic and everyone is looking forward to exploring the city!
