@GGCanto I am sure you understand "AI should not take any decision" is NOT how it works. This is not computation but inference. Computation cannot persuade, inference can. And persuasion is indistinguishable from agency/power.

@GGCanto the problem will be that admins will refuse to cede power to the AI. Right now they are certainly scrambling to come up with new narratives as to why they are necessary...

@GGCanto responsibility is on those who chose that software for the Uni. At my prior uni, the person in charge of deciding which management software to use ended up being hired bby the company he recommended... 😂😂😂😂

This what the new Model Y's Matrix LED headlights will be able to do in a couple months via a new adaptive beam feature. This feature will automatically dim/adjust specific sections of the headlights to prevent blinding oncoming drivers and drivers in front of you, all while keeping the surrounding areas brightly lit. Older Teslas in the US with Matrix LEDs headlights will also get this functionality via a software update. The adaptive beam feature on Teslas hasn't been allowed in the US, which is why despite Tesla putting Matrix LEDs in many of their cars in the US for years, Tesla hasn't been able to enable this feature. Now the company is finally getting the certifications. Countries in Europe have had this feature for a little while.

Curious that talented athletes frequently credit God when they win, but we rarely see them blame God when they lose.

Idiocy. Does anyone really believe a western govt can be trusted to efficiently and legally allocate 100 B$? It has literally not happened since the Apollo program. The reason they do it is because it is not their money but yours and they have some friends who need a new yacht.

Is France finally waking up? 100 Billion investment in AI? With their abundant nuclear power it‘s probably the only country in Europe where it can work at this scale. And Germany is relentlessly focused on heat pumps and saving its industry from the last century 😂

Capping indirects is a VERY stupid move. It won't punish uni admins as it should but it will just punish PIs. Rather than extensively slash pork in the university budget, they will rather stop pursuing NIH funding as they will be at a loss.

A 15% cap on indirect-costs rates probably is too low, but indirect-costs rates over 50% are unjustifiable, and indirect-costs rates over 60% are obscene.

IMO, if you are a professor/researcher and you are not in some very deep identity crisis with regard to AI, you are in for some very rough awakening in the next few months.

@dwarkesh_sp In a study, Wharton MBA students and AI were asked to generate ideas for new products or services. Of the 40 best ideas, as judged by humans who were not aware of the study’s purpose, 35 were generated by AI and only 5 were generated by humans.

I still haven't heard a good answer to this question, on or off the podcast. AI researchers often tell me, "Don't worry bout it, scale solves this." But what is the rebuttal to someone who argues that this indicates a fundamental limitation?
