LC Golfer Theresa Lazanich was presented with a new set of clubs by Danielle Nicholson of the NOPGA Foundation’s “Clubs Fore Kids”. Pro Tim Ausperk took the initiative to assist Theresa as she had previously been using a number of old mismatched mens clubs the last 2 years.
Santa was good to the boys & girls golf teams this year as the jolly old elf delivered the gift of a golf simulator to kick off our development of a school golf studio in 2022 🎅🏻🎄🎁
Our teammate Meghan Zappia will be attending the University of Dayton in pursuit of a business degree. Meghan also earned a Leadership in Service Award Scholarship! Wishing her all the best this coming fall!
Now for a bit of good news...our own Emily Werner has been accepted into a highly competitive college program and will be attending the Rochester Institute of Technology 5 year BS/MS Physician Assistant Program! Congratulations and well deserved!

The Leo Zampedro Golf Studio at Lake Catholic is almost complete. The projector is the last major missing piece of phase 1 and hopefully we will have it soon🤞Cougar Alumna Claire Myllykoski (‘21) stopped in to visit and test out the studio! She still has her swing looking good!
Theresa and I on the tee on the last hole of the day, Theresa shot a 113 (56-57) for her first ever 18 hole tournament and Captain Lauren Olenik shoots a personal best 96 (47-49). Great effort from both of these players today! I continue tobe impressed by the golfers on this team
The Cougars finished 8th out of 18 teams today and the sun finally came out at the end of our day! Proud of all these golfers who played hard all day in wind, rain and cold!
Player of the Week: Katie Morgan; At Washington Park Katie had a 54, 3 double bogeys and a par, & only one double max par hole! As a 9th Grader she is playing competitive golf for the first time! She is a hard worker at practice & it showed yesterday during our 18 hole practice😃

NEWSFLASH, This just in...LC Sophomore Lauren Olenik earns D2 Girls Golf All-Northeast Ohio Second Team Recognition! Well deserved and she is in some great company with the other golfers who were recognized as 1st or 2nd team! Congratulations to all!
Our Co-Captain Julia Schoen is headed for the University of Dayton and will be pursuing degrees in marketing and the performing arts. I cannot wait to see what role she lands in her first college theatrical debut!
A really good&fun day despite the rain. We finished 14th out of 21 teams which was pretty good considering the high caliber teams that attended. We shot 400 as a team which was 33 better than last week so quite the improvement! All smiles in the ride home, thanks Hudson&Bobby!
Theresa earned our MVP recognition this year which was well deserved and Captain Lauren was honored with our first ever Leadership Award for her continuing dedication to the team throughout this season despite a wrist injury that ended her Junior season two weeks into August!
Senior day at our match with our friends at Mentor Girls Golf today. We recognize our lone senior teammate, Captain Lauren Olenik. We tie with Mentor at 192 each which is also our best team score of the year! ( they get the tiebreaker on their fifth scorer).
Congratulations to sophomore Dominik Cosic and Coach Forrai on representing LC in the district’s golf tourney at Windmill Lakes yesterday! Dom shot 82, just a few strokes shy of advancing, and lots of great high school golf to look forward to from this young man! (File pix below)

More things to look forward to, another senior success story is Alexandra Fox who aced her audition to gain admission into CSU’s School of Music this fall! She auditioned with the clarinet, but she can also play the trumpet, piano, guitar and ukulele. Very excited for her 🎼 🥳
Today would have been my father’s 80th birthday. Leo Zampedro was a nationally recognized golf teaching pro for most of his career and coached pro athletes, LPGA players and top ranked amateurs but he really loved introducing new players to the game, especially juniors.
Our other Co-Captain, Kayley Kelly, will be attending John Carroll University majoring in Education and becoming active in choir and Campus Ministry. I am also happy to tweet she will be playing collegiate golf for the Blue Streaks on their women's golf team! Awesome!
Lauren Olenik in her last event as a Cougar golfer😢fires a personal best 87(42-45)! She was always a consistent low40’s shooter but struggled to break90 in tourneys. She can check that off the list now✅. I am so happy for her,it’s been a great honor to have been her H.S. Coach!

We managed a second place finish in the Crown Conference yesterday at Pine Hills GC by one stroke over third place NDCL. Never say one stroke doesn’t matter! Nice work Cougars 🥳⛳️
LC Golfer Eme Ertel has selected The Ohio State University as her college destination. She will be enrolling in Science and Technology coursework in pursuit of the environmental engineering profession! There is no doubt she will be successful as a Buckeye!

Our past Cougar Golf Captain Lauren Olenik was honored to have received the Maureen O’Brien Award from the OGGF recognizing the candidate with the best love and passion for the sport of golf. That is certainly true! I saw her passion for the game every day for four years!
Week 1 Player of the Week is Sophomore Emma Madsen. She carded a 99 in the OGGF HS Showcase, breaking 100 for the first time and followed that up with a 42 in our match with Padua on Thursday a personal best! Keep it up Emma!

Stopped by our friend Dominik Cosic’s house on our way home from Sectionals for a surprise visit and congratulated him on his Sectional round of 76 today at Quail Hollow and his advancing to Districts!
Personal Best Alert 🎉: Only fitting that on Senior day our Sr. Claire Myllykoski shoots a personal best 48 and gets into the 40’s club for the first time! She played great today and has been working hard all year to put her golf game together! Overjoyed to see her score so well!
We won our second match just getting by the Lions at NDCL 220-228. Our four scorers were Ella Zampedro 50 (medalist),
Emma Madsen 51, Kayla Calvey 56 & Koreen Leukulich 63. Claire Gibbons and Angela Kerwood filled out the 5 & 6 spots.

Our player of the week is Freshman Claire Gibbons. She has been playing less than 3 months and made 61 with only 3 pickup holes👏in our match with Hudson at Lake Forest. Her round included her first competitive par and 2 double bogeys! She seems to really enjoy the game!
Today we won the LC’s first girls golf conference championship! All six golfers played extremely well on the hardest track we’ve ever played, Grey Hawk in La Grange! The new North Coast Conference with some great golf teams in it! This was our season’s goal & the team earned it!
