If stuff started getting "affordable" they would stop fucking building because the profit margins would be too small.

Let's not act like this is a win for housing affordability - one of the four units just sold for $1.9M, which would require a $400k+/yr in order to afford.
All this did was, as critics of YIMBY policies constantly point out - make one developer a decent amount of money.

I just discovered that a builder has pulled off a 4-unit, single-stair condo bldg on a standard (for S.F.) 25' x 100' lot!

In general, and this is the case with a lot of these sorts of sports, the difference can be largely attributed to a smaller pool of players.
Total player pool in a sport is going to give an increased likelihood for higher and higher talent.

It’s not a loss.
It’s being cash flow negative.
If you can’t carry the mortgage costs as a landlord, you’re overleveraged.
Your tenant’s rent still contributes to your purchase of your rental property.
No one owes you a positive cash flow for your purchase you couldn’t afford.
