I get the (entertaining) dunking, but people just now learning about this are misunderstanding why some are so fiercely defending it. It's not just Disney or Star Wars brand devotion.

The "Star Wars Hotel" is actually the biggest, most expensive, most mainstream (and therefore most Legitimate™️) form of ongoing immersive theater to ever get built.

Ultimately, I think the instinct to aggressively defend the Starcruiser is more rooted in a need to defend the immersive industry as a whole. The project's high profile failure cast a bleak shadow over an industry already struggling in its infancy.

To say it's merely a "LARP hotel" minimizes what it was (and kinda misunderstands what a traditional LARP is). Nothing on the scale or with the complexity of Starcruiser had ever been attempted. It was a huge, huge deal in the burgeoning immersive theater space.

On paper, Starcruiser seemed like a game changer with the potential to transform how the immersive industry was perceived by the public *and* investors.

In practice, something this technologically sophisticated had never been done, compromising many voyages. Disney cut corners on the "luxury" element of the ship. Marketing had no idea how to sell it. Few could stomach the comical price.

For many immersive enthusiasts, though, these flaws didn't matter. They still got to live in a realized world for two days, while most immersives only lasted hours. Their imaginations filled in the blanks or papered over the more frustrating elements of the experience.

POSEIDON’S FURY! always felt like spectacular feats of engineering in search of a coherent story. The final attraction juggled genuine atmosphere & gravitas with some of the corniest visuals I’ve ever seen in a major theme park. Still, it was unique and beguiling. I’ll miss it.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like they found something very wrong with the show building that doesn't represent an *immediate* danger but does require relatively prompt intervention before it becomes a safety issue.
Beginning June 5, Peter Pan’s Flight, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, and Alice in Wonderland at Disneyland Park will be closed for refurbishment. Reopening dates are not yet available.
It’s worth noting these three attractions are all in the same show building in Fantasyland.

Rewatched CHILD’S PLAY 2 via

’s glorious 4K release last night. 84 airtight minutes of cruel, unadulterated Chucky unleashing on a fantastic cast. Script is legit great, and the factory finale is still an all-timer.
A perfect Universal Monster movie, in my book.

Begging horror fans to keep an open mind & maybe even expand their horizons. Not every maze has to be a 1:1 adaptation of a cult classic or slasher flick.
Love to see the event taking some big swings. Huge potential here, plus an opportunity to bring the event to a new audience!
