I really applaud this tweet and position paper... the realization of a World Computer is of such high value to humanity that we need to ensure it happens, and happens soon. No one person or organization can tackle this challenge, particularly considering the competing resources of Big Tech, and success will require a massive team effort. It's incredible to see this group of thought leaders in our space tackle this topic, especially given that many of these leaders were present in 2016 when the idea of using blockchain to achieve a World Computer was first being discussed. The uncomfortable truth, though, is that the majority of the blockchain industry is actually further away from achieving a World Computer in 2024 than it was in 2016, because our industry has made a series of tradeoffs that took us away from the World Computer vision in order to get short-term adoption and PMF. Only ICP and @dfinity, under @dominic_w's leadership, has remained true to the vision of a World Computer. That steadfast dedication to the vision has required sacrifices, particularly around ICP adoption in crypto-verticals like DeFi, but we've always played the long game and remained true to the vision. That is why I am so proud to work for DFINITY and be part of this wonderful community. We are building the future of the internet. I am thrilled to see the leaders in our industry return back to the World Computer roots, and even more thrilled that many pioneers of web1 and web2 tech are joining in that vision. ICP will continue to lead in this space and I welcome anyone that shares in this vision. Let's build a better internet future together 🤝
Along with @rjdrost, @NamikMuduroglu, we spent the past two months writing this position paper with comments and feedbacks from @VitalikButerin, @sreeramkannan, @post_polar_, @Austin_Federa, and @0xMegaMafia. Personal computers empower individuals to process an almost-infinite amount of information. The Internet empowers individuals to cast their thoughts throughout almost the entire world. However, these technologies have not fundamentally changed how individuals form societies––a process that depends on trust, delegation, and sometimes, exploitation. What we need is a steward that faithfully enforces every invariant in interpersonal and intermachine coordination––a World Computer that, by design, is correct, open, responsive, and capacious. With recent advancements in theory and engineering of distributed systems, a World Computer whose efficiency approaches the physical limit is now within our reach. The World Computer is not just a vision; it is a call to action. It is time to let loose your imagination and build!

OdinFun is an amazingly phenomenal app. The UX is unmatched in web3. It's crazy to think this is the worst the app will ever be.
Wow what a day. 🎉🥳🎊 ODIN•FUN cannot be stopped. Everything just keeps getting better. -- 🔐 All token chats are now holder gated! You have to own $25 or 25k sats of the token in order to comment on the token page. We have some more advanced reputation-based solutions we can implement over time, but we felt like this was the quickest win to clean up the comments sections. At least now bots have to pump your bags to spam you. 🛠️ Etching now finished for the first 12 bonded tokens! This is now a decentralized and automated process that will run every time a token bonds. It does take a while for the etch commit + reveal + processing to take place, but within 12 hours of a token bonding (often sooner) bonded tokens will be etched. For example, Donald Duck is currently being etched after bonding earlier today and should finish in the next few hours. ↔️ Runes withdrawals are coming next! Runes withdrawals are coming in our next release. You'll notice some Runes updates in the withdraw section as we prepare to open up withdrawals. Note that because working with Runes on Bitcoin L1 requires UTXO management, and we are working with the Odin app-chain and BTC L1, there is a 10k sat fee for withdrawals. This covers (1) UTXO management costs, and (2) the Bitcoin network fees required to send your Runes to your destination Bitcoin address. 🙋 Support summary There are still a few stragglers on the deposit and withdrawal side, but we've almost finished getting everyone squared away. If you are still experiencing issues, please join the BLIFE discord and create a ticket and we will help debug and make sure your deposits and withdrawals are all accounted for. Interesting flip on memecoins... 500 supply, mining rewards are only 1 token, 4ish hour block times (so only 6ish tokens distributed a day... approx 83 days to fully distribute)
