Super excited to share our new work showing that recurrent feedback from hippocampal replays to PFC can implement a form of planning that matches human behavior in a sequential decision making task! w/ @GJEHennequin & @marcelomattar

It will be interesting to keep exploring the interactions between circuits during sleep and better understand the extent to which the brain represents a single unified 'virtual state' or performs several independent computations in parallel

Can also recommend the updated bioRxiv version of the paper, where we didn’t have to cut a full section & figure etc. due to arbitrary editorial policies:

New preprint from the lab! 🚨 Replay of procedural experience occurs in the striatum and is independent of the hippocampus. Heroic effort by @EmmettJThompson & the rest of the team @_JasvinKaur, @_GeorginaMills, @dorrell_will, @ClementineDomi6, @TomNotGeorge 🧵👇1/13

Some very impressive tests of theoretical predictions from a compositional replay model!

Major update to @BakermansJJW's compositional state space model In particular, a cool analysis (Figs 5, 6) showing landmark cells are built in replay. Exactly as predicted in version 1, replay is laying down compositional maps for future behaviour.

An approach would e.g. be not to cite any papers submitted for-profit in 2025 or later. As more people get on board, not-for-profit publishing will become more desirable/popular -> easier to not cite for-profit -> snowball effect -> win? 6/6
