The main focus of our research group is the role of immune system, in particular Tregs, in the pathophysiology of Myeloid malignancies, including MDS & MPN.

In past 2 days, we had our annual #i4MDS meeting in The Hague. Great discussions with colleagues about the role of the immune system in MDS and novel findings. Three years ago, when we founded this group, I never expected this level of progress and collaboration. Truly delighted.

I spent the past three days in Bergen university, Norway, giving a lecture for the Haemato-Oncology group and conducting a research methodology workshop for medical students. I thoroughly enjoyed the scientific discussions and exchanges with the students and colleagues.

A very interesting paper to read. They have shown that that canakinumab’s on-target effects in hematopoietic populations expressing the IL-1β receptor decreased the TNF-mediated inflammatory signaling pathway but only in the context of lower genetic complexity.

A fantastic day at Amsterdam UMC with my colleague and friend, Prof. Arjan van de Loosdrecht, and his team. We had many insightful discussions and made exciting plans for future collaborations. It was also wonderful to catch up with the former students we’ve jointly supervised!
