We're many. Just not overt because people's fascination tend to go into the rude zone. It's why I use Mariam in public rather than my Ibo name Amaka because people want to know how I ended up being a Muslim. And then they vow they can convert me.
How everything can literally weaponized against you. Your biology, your looks, your weight, your age, your marital status, even your career - successful or not. The survival of a woman is to survive shame alot in her life. To overcome it is to truly be happy.
Being Igbo Muslim and watching the religious tribal fights this election period has been hilarious and sad to witness at the same time. It's unbelievable to see people still think like this. It's all so stupid.
Frankly Oloni's thread shouldn't be shocking when it's something the other gender does, is normalised and gets away with. It's so normalised now that it isn't even a deal breaker for alot of women as long as she is the "main" or he does it discreetly. Lol.
@nalu_kings
I don't understand. So despite the importance of the travel and all the evidence, you were still rejected?! I thought the academy would give extended support(letter etc) to facilitate visa approval?
There's a foundation in Abuja that saves babies from Infanticide from a locality in Kuje. Apparently they kill the babies if the mother died during childbirth. Guess what? The fathers are often alive🫠. They currently don't allow adoption incase they want them back.
@omgbase2
I think point of the tweet is that people use this problematic excuse to be emotionally manipulative and abusive partners. For how long do they want to keep riding on this excuse? Therapist or no, they need to fix up.
@joelagbaje
@siiddartha
But this doesn't apply to what she's saying. Some men cannot deal with women who have alot of qualifications cos they tend to misconstrue every single thing she does as being condescending.
Whole men were tweeting months back about how they felt no shame upping and leaving their wives and kids behind if they got *tired*. It had thousands of likes. Women there recognise it could be their fate and refuse to bother and somehow they are at fault?
How can you not see the problem here? An entire race/generation can get lost with low birth rates. Go look at the lost generation of Japan for reference
How ironic that
stones agree
both big and small
to interlock
to make a structure
withstand the test of time
And yet Humans
refuse to meld
because they are big
and others small
These stones
have shown
That even hearts
can be harder
than rocks
@thefaridaadamu
Ok this is disturbing 😲 how can it just assume you used AI cos of big words??? It means the so-called AI detector machines are inherently biased
If I'm going through this, I can't imagine what Igbo Muslim converts with Christian parents are going through. Their experiences are probably hurtful. May God make their new path easy for them.
I think the whole fascination is with the fact that in Nigeria we have ascribed specific religions to certain tribes eg all Hausas are Muslim, all Ibos are christians. I think it's only the Yorubas that have been allowed wiggle room out of that stereotype.
The saddest thing about this woman's story is that she meticulously and publicly documented what was being done to her, and even reported to the authorities, and still it prevented nothing. Her tweets were harrowing. I pray she gets justice.
The energy around this young man's case makes absolutely no sense, because it is clear they are just trying to make him a scapegoat to warn future protesters. We are yet to see political thieves and criminals treated like this.
@SortOfKnownO
Also conversations tend to be about "when is it your turn" for some of them when we actually get to hang out. If it's not that, they're trying to hook you up. I understand it comes from a good place but I honestly do not want to spend the rare time we have together discussing Men
Also, please find the person who came up with the idea that men who write code are the "smartest" people around, and they should somehow get to determine the future of law, journalism, politics, music, art and everything else that humans have spent 300,000 years evolving.

Not everyone chooses to be shallow, but everyone can choose to learn. If you can find someone, who can admit the gaps in their knowledge about social issues& is willing to learn, it makes for a more stimulating partner than one who supposedly knows it all& is rigid in their views
I don't think I can get over the innocence of waving flags. There was something pure about this protest, which makes the event that happened afterwards more devastating
Then comes the statements that overstep boundaries.
"Eiyah"( like i've truly lost my way😂)
"So your mum stole you people"(all my siblings are Muslims btw)
"We can convert you, you know. This isnt right"
"Dont worry you will marry a Christian and surely convert"
@SortOfKnownO
I reached out to a couple of married friends to hangout. It was excuses upon excuses. So I understood they have a much tighter schedule now they're married with kids. Whenever they're ready to hang I'll be there but I don't think I will be asking them out anytime soon.
When my Father died we left everything for his people. My mum did not even want to stress because she knew of the horrors that comes with claiming property in the Igbo tradition. The only thing they didn't bat an eyelash when we took were the books he wrote.
I will admit, depending on who i'm dealing with, I often claim my mother's state of origin(Kogi) just to avoid those kind of questions and statements. My younger sister had a particularly nasty experience with a teacher of hers just because she's Igbo Muslim.
It's not everytime the name thing works though, because trust Nigerians, your state of origin must come up somehow in a convo. And when I tell people who ask that I'm from Imo state, and they see me with my turban and scarf, their surprise is always comical.
And then comes the regular slew of questions
Them: How come? How did it happen?!
Me: Umm..my dad is Igbo so..
Them: So he is a muslim too?!
Me: Umm..no he is actually Christian. My mum is from Kogi and Muslim
They become even more alarmed. Like HOW could my dad let this happen!
I believe now there are many people we have the chance of being with. These different people will each bring different aspects of our personality to the surface and it is how much we love ourselves when around them that let's us decide who we want.
If BY had gone a different route where Ozgür was really "Mr Wrong" and showed all those tendencies with Ezgi moping after him, and crying cos he keeps breaking her heart, the series would have lasted longer and had better ratings. That's messed up

As a beneficiary of AUN, everything in that video is true. I got my first laptop from AUN upon admission. Was taught to partake in community service activities. AUN invited expats to train widows in the community to transform waste to wealth as far back as 2011/12
My birthday is March 6th.

Now I see why African Americans are so sensitive about cultural appropriation. Cos YTs just don't co-opt the culture, they steal it to the extent that the origin is erased or is presented as inferior.
Seeing some Nigerians say “we don’t gatekeep our culture” when we should be doing so especially when it’s disrespectful. Anyway, me I gatekeep sha, don’t find yt people especially imitating Nigerians funny & it’s very cringe when I see Nigerians defending it
Bay Yanliş was seen as competition cos the protagonists truly loved each other, a "wrong" man decided to change and become good for love, a broken woman regained her strength. Yet it wasn't appealing enough cos the couple was happy despite obstacles.

@CHINWENDUH
If the misspelling made you wrongly infer I am a Muslim and from the "North" (I am not even based there), I wonder how many other assumptions you make based on incorrect facts. And yes I know Igbo converts from both Christian parents, so they exist.
@asemota
Alot of founders in Africa tend to underestimate how hard the problem they set out to solve is. We set out as visionaries only to become ravaged by reality. As long as we can play the long game, we'll get things right eventually. We just need to be honest with ourselves & others.
Adulthood and life in general rids you of this one track mindset that achieving certain things before a certain age is REAL, but holding onto it despite circumstances telling you otherwise is what leads to depression and heartbreak.
The audience already has enough so called "realistic" shows where the couple breaks apart for things that communication could have easily solved. Bay Yanliş was showing us something differently. It was hope, and yet it wasn't good enough?

Maybe the mistake we Muslims make when trying to explain away the actions of these extremists is in trying to cut their ties with Islam and in denying their actions aren't Islamic. But in our effort to do so, we sound totally unbelievable. Thread 🧵
Even their attitude on the day of his burial when people were bringing gifts was telling, so we let it all go. Looking back, I guess we were able to do that because of who Mum is, and how hard she had worked for herself and for us. I wish other women had that privilege.
Ok since this has come to pass. I will share something else I dreamt about within the same dream. The people of Palestine. I saw the devastation of their land, but then I saw them in Paradise climbing up lush hills. It was so beautiful I wanted to capture it🥹
Since we found out about them, I along with
@NunuEluma
& some Abuja artists went to perform a Christmas carol for them in December. They got to paint as well. Also items we get from
@HoBeeiNG
are donated occasionally. Now that you know about them, you TOO can get involved!
Bay Yanliş was on the route to showing us how couples should handle obstacles together instead of apart. Yes there was going to be drama to spice things up, but it was going to teach us that united couples can defeat anything. What's so wrong with that?

I understand your viewpoint, especially because you're well known as an advocate of education BUT it is important that when expressing such a viewpoint, it should be stressed that one should still educate themselves despite not going to Uni. Highly stressed.
Dropping out of Uni or not going to Uni isn’t the end of the world. There are so many college dropouts who are millionaires and even billionaires today. Go to big markets in Lagos, Kano, Enugu, Aba and Onitsha. You will find millionaires without a degree. Some employ PhD holders.
