When you call KUB, one of our local Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) will answer the phone to assist you with any issues you may have, including bill payment assistance. We saw extremely low temperatures in January which resulted in higher energy usage. That higher than average usage will be reflected on your February billing statement. If you think you may have trouble paying your bill, please call 865-524-2911 to speak with one of our CSRs or learn more at Helping our community is a key part of our mission as your not-for-profit utility provider and our CSRs are essential to making sure every customer is taken care of.

Levelized Billing makes it easy to budget for your utility bill costs all year round. As winter comes to an end and snow turns to rain, slick roads are a hazard to drivers. Standing water hides potholes as well as causes cars to hydroplane into roadside infrastructure such as power poles. In 2024, motor vehicle accidents (MVAs) caused electrical outages lasting a combined 375 hours for more than 18,000 customers. You can help us maintain safe and reliable utilities by slowing down when there is water on the road and putting away distractions.

KUB employee Chatty Cannon has been a part of KUB’s TeenWork program for two decades! Starting as a participant in 2000, she later became an employee and mentor, witnessing firsthand the program's growth and expansion as we celebrate its 30th anniversary. One of her favorite things about being a TeenWork mentor is hearing from past students she’s mentored, as they reflect on how the program has had a lasting impact on their lives and careers. TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Starting the week of February 3 and lasting through June 2025, KUB crews will close Woods-Smith Road to through traffic in segments between McKamey Road and Shrewsbury Drive (see map) as construction progresses on a wastewater collection system upgrade project in the area. The entire stretch of Woods-Smith Road will not be closed at one time. Due to the extent of excavation, road closures will remain in place continuously in active work zones. The traffic control plan will maintain access to driveways and connecting side streets. Flaggers, signs, and barricades will be present at each closure zone to direct traffic either to the east toward McKamey Road or west toward Western Avenue, depending on the excavation site location.

Extreme cold during January led to an increase in energy usage for most customers. With the outside temperature dropping as low as single digits, your heating system had to work much harder to warm your home. If your thermostat was set to 68° when the lows hit 8°, your heating system was maintaining a 60° temperature difference. Meanwhile, in the summer, if your thermostat is set to 78° when the highs hit 88°, that is only a 10° difference. This increase in usage will be reflected on your February bill, but our customer service representatives are here to provide bill payment assistance. Give us a call at 865-524-2911 or learn more at

January's tree of the month is the American Beech! Native to East Tennessee, this large hardwood tree can reach heights of 60 to 80 feet and live a long life. It produces fruit that serves as a vital food source for small mammals, deer, and birds. Considered a tall-zone tree, you should plant it at least 50 feet from utility maintenance zones.
