Race, gender, sexuality — these aren't matters of shame or pride. They aren't the substance of anyone's identity. They're happenstance. I honor the dignity/potential of every individual, but real pride is derivative of character and achievement. Pride isn't trivial; it's earned.

This would be an excellent time for everyone to take a big step back from hysterical demagoguery and conspiracy-mongering. Insisting your *least-favorite* candidate is *literally Hitler* was always bad — maybe stop doing that. Perhaps even walk it back.

You don't need to read it. You just need to know it exists. A lifetime of therapy probably can't fix this. It's the quintessence of America's deluded + paranoia-fueled "racial reckoning."

Harboring shame on account of crimes committed by someone else -- this is self-sabotage. My predecessors' defects don't define me. Same for their transgressions. Same for their conquests.

The public discourse about police violence is race-obsessed and prone to hysteria. It's a haven for ideological opportunists and the statistically ignorant. *Progress* achieved under conditions like that may be expensive and short-lived. Likely much of the costs will be hidden.

Imagine a loved one dies in a high profile act of violence. The media narrative surrounding the tragedy begins w/ intense speculation RE racial motives, and this framing persists despite growing evidence that race is likely irrelevant. How would you feel? Who benefits from this?

A woman was **literally** in the act of stabbing someone when she was shot by police, a fact that directly contradicts widely circulating internet rumors. KMELE: [post facts] + [admonition] 'Maybe don't promote lies.' HIM: "But #WhiteSupremacy 👻!" Can't make this garbage up.

We must be honest about this: We've endured yrs of escalating polarization and political violence. Full Stop. Past 4 Years: Mass shootings targeting lawmakers. Scores dead amid waves of mass demonstrations + riots. Municipal bldgs torched. Fed outposts under months-long siege...

"What am I doing wrong?" Making sweeping assumptions about recent tragedy. Systematically eschewing nuance + promoting hysteria. Promulgating ridiculous binaries that have virtually no relationship w/ reality. Doing all that in an echo chamber, making correction far less likely.

I talked this morning about an inflection point in this country right now, specifically for reporters: What are you more afraid of? Being on Breitbart for saying that trans people deserve to be alive? Or are you more afraid of waking up to the news of more dead people?

Let's all play a very dumb game! RULES: 1. There's a magical word. 2. People who-kinda-sorta-look-alike-or-something, they get to use THE WORD freely. 3. If 'other kind of people' use THE WORD in any context (or even a word that sounds similar) 💥 — They’re out! Maybe forever?

Americans have a perverse relationship w/ ‘nigger’: Insufficiently black person uses this word in context, leaving no doubt about intent or meaning, and it’s ‘sackcloth & ashes’ — Termination of employment and an expectation that offenders emphatically profess their corruption.

Entirely fake controversy, but it manages to succeed* in at least two ways: 1) Falsely denigrating a man as racist 2) Giving oxygen to an actual racist organization *no one* has ever heard of America’s racism fetish at it’s most absurd. Sadly, 'absurd' ≠ 'inconsequential'.
