7/10 of an inch and still raining. What a blessing for this parched area. And it has come on a day with an Environment Canada forecast of only 30% chance of showers.
Former Farmgate hosts at Bob Simpson’s retirement party. Pity that CTV is ending the show with Bob’s retirement. Last episode airs today. Farmgate has been running since early 80s.
Grain companies have the right to and should refuse grain deliveries that have been artificially watered prior to delivery as it may cause grain to go out of condition. More on rights and obligations regarding adding water to grain:

Good to see BASF coming out with an urgent message to growers on herbicide residue issues for the 2022 crop. Canola, durum and Canary seed at particular risk. Many rotational restrictions added for areas with limited growing season rainfall.
Not much fanfare, but great news that Agrocorp Processing is well along in its building of a protein extraction plant at Cut Knife for peas, lentils and chickpeas.
Unbelievable! CN supplied only 17% of the hopper cars requested by shippers in Grain Week 29. CP was at 66% for a combined performance of only 38%, according to the most recent report from the Ag Transport Coalition.

Manitoba’s insured price for canola this year is $16.44 a bushel. Manitoba uses a December price forecast from AAFC. Saskatchewan uses a price forecast generated in January. I’ll bet the Sask canola price will be significantly lower.
"We all know about what went on in B.C. a few weeks ago with temperatures of almost 50 degrees... We're seeing a lot of crops being ruined and scrapped as a result of climate change,"
X-Steam-inator and Honey Bee Manufacturing have signed an MOU whereby Honey Bee will assist in development and then have manufacturing rights. See the news release and videos of the prototype at .
You know crop conditions have improved when you need to swat mosquitoes while crop checking. These maple peas are my best crop. I also have crops that aren’t very pretty.
Plant Growth Stims: If you're getting out to spray flea leaf beetles contact us about also doing an application of stimulant. Tank mixes with any herbicide/insecticide/fungicide and only costs $3.25/acre per pass. Great option to increase root growth and yield. 844.324.7778
Sask Crop Insurance prices available ahead of official announcement if you are set up for CropConnect on SCIC website. Spring wheat - 8.55; Durum - 10.86; Canola - 15.08; Peas - 9.58; LG Lentils - 44 cents; Red Lentils - 28 cents, Barley - 5.44.
See the X-Steam-inator at Farm Progress Show. High temp steam to terminate weeds. Grass in picture was sprayed preceding day. Agricultural game changer.

Canary seed producers attending their AGM have voted 25 to 2 in favour of having the crop licensed and bonded by the Canadian Grain Commission. The board of directors for the Canary Seed Commission will work to make that happen.

Check out our progress with the X-Stream-inator. High temperature steam on demand for weed control, soil pathogen control and crop desiccation. Watch the video posted at .
Chickpeas riddled with disease. Three fungicide apps, but still losing the battle. Need lower humidity and an end to the showers. How are chickpeas doing elsewhere?
What do you think of these seeded acreage projections from Ag Canada?
Canola - up 3%
Durum - up 6%
Other wheat - steady to last year
Barley - down 7%
Oats - down 11%
Flax - up 22%
Soybeans - up 12%
Peas - up slightly

French supermarkets are out of mustard. Yesterday, a TV journalist from Paris arrived at my farm to talk about why this has happened and whether France should grow its own brown mustard.
I’ve talked to a number of producers having trouble getting specific inputs - some fall herbicides and even some common tractor tires. Is anyone else having similar supply troubles?
Thanks Twiterverse. Mike’s Hydraulics in Saskatoon had exactly the hydraulic pump we needed and helped us out even though they were technically closed.
@KevinHursh1
kevin, do you have access to any data that would differ between naturally occuring climate change and man made climate change? i never hear any 'climate scientists' refer to this difference and am confused by it. our climate has changed forever, even before man.
Sask Crop Insurance prices are out and with the run-up in the market, many are much lower than new crop values. Durum - $6.94; field peas - $7.50; flax - 13.97. If you have new crop contracts that are higher, consider using the Contract Price Option to increase your coverage.
I just got an email from a retailer saying there are 3 areas of plant health to focus on in drought:
1. can't take up nutrients without water so apply foliars
2. control weeds so they don't compete for resources
3. drought stressed plants still get disease so spray fungicide
Some huge increases in Sask Crop Insurance premiums. The premium rate for my brown mustard is more than double canola. Haven’t been growing canola through the past couple dry years. Overall lack of transparency in how premiums are derived.
Carbon tax is a drag on all export oriented industries and it goes far beyond grain drying costs. Agree with John Barlow, but an exaggeration when he says it has cost farmers "billions" of dollars.
Liberal AG Minister admits she and her department “...does not have information concerning the administration of the federal carbon tax.” No data.. no information.. but they'll tax farmers hard earn money from them just the same, because they can.
