If the Suns somehow land Beal without having any trade-able 1st round picks, a serious discussion may need to be had.
Deni Avdija breakout game tonight:
43 points
14 rebounds
3 assists
1 block
13/24 FG%
6/10 from 3
72.3% TS
+ 17 in a 7 point loss
Wizards might finally have one.
No young players with upside and no 1st round picks in return for Beal.
Just an awful return considering you could’ve gotten a Gobert size return for him only 2 years ago. Asset mismanagement at its finest.
The best thing that can happen for this franchise is for Bradley Beal to request a trade this summer so the Wiz can embrace a full rebuild.
This experiment with him being the lead guy has been going on 4 seasons now and it’s led the team to nowhere.
Deni tonight:
▪️11 points on 5/6 shooting
▪️10 rebounds
▪️Team leading +18
▪️Elite defense once again.
He’s growing up right in front of our eyes folks.
Developing: Washington is in serious talks with two finalists – Miami and Phoenix – on a Bradley Beal trade, sources tell

. The Suns have emerged as a serious threat for Beal, who holds a no-trade clause.
Winger, Dawkins, and Schlenk could each probably run a team on their own. To have all three of them working together on one team is a massive get by Ted and the FO.
Can’t explain how much the Wiz fleeced here:
1) Bagley has provided solid backup center minutes this year.
2) Livers has struggled shooting the ball this year (46% TS) but I like taking the swing on him.
3) And the Wiz got two seconds? Excellent trade by Winger and Dawkins.
The Pistons and Wizards are finalizing a deal to trade Marvin Bagley, Isaiah Livers, and two second-round picks for forwards Danilo Gallinari and Mike Muscala, sources tell ESPN.
Those 2028 and 2030 pick swaps are massive. There’s a great possibility that Phoenix doesn’t have any of Booker, Durant or Beal on the roster then.
Turned out to be a great trade by Winger.
Washington and Phoenix have finalized the Bradley Beal trade, landing the Wizards six second-round draft picks and four first-round pick swaps, sources tell ESPN. Suns are sending seconds in 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028 and 2030. Pick swaps in 2024, 2026, 2028 and 2030.
We criticized the Wizards past regime for not swinging for upside in the last few drafts. The Coulibaly pick is just that and I’m excited to see his development.
Vukcevic is a problem! The fluidity in movement for a guy his size is special.
The Wizards have a team option on him for the ‘24-25 season before he’s an RFA in ‘25-26 but I would expect them to decline the team option and sign him to a longer term deal, likely the “Sam Hinkie
Kyle Kuzma this season in the clutch (coming into tonight):
▪️52/47/73 shooting splits
▪️+15.5 net rating
▪️72.1 TS%
With tonight’s win, the Wizards are now 15-3 in “clutch” games which is the best in the league.
Beal was awful once again down the stretch and committed a terrible foul to give Kennard a 4 point play. Also got outplayed by Amir Coffey on his own home court. But some people tell me we’re supposed to build around him and mortgage future assets to make him happy.
Porzingis as the lone max player with the young guys + the players you’d get back in a theoretical trade for Beal and Kuzma (s&t in Kuzma’s case) is a team I could get behind.
Porzingis has truly had an excellent season.

Schlenk has had a role in drafting these notable players:
▪️Draymond Green (when he was w/ GSW)
▪️Trae Young
▪️John Collins
▪️Kevin Huerter
▪️DeAndre Hunter
▪️Onyeka Okongwu
▪️Jalen Johnson
▪️AJ Griffin
A strong draft record.
The Wizards are hiring former Hawks President of Basketball Operations Travis Schlenk as Senior VP of Player Personnel, sources tell ESPN. New Wizards president Michael Winger lands a well-regarded talent evaluator and executive as he continues his search for a general manager.
When you put the ball in Deni Avdija’s hands, good things happen. Because he’s scoring so consistently now, it’s opened up his playmaking chops and some of these passes last night were fantastic.
In a forgettable season for Wizards fans, Avdija’s growth as a scorer and shooter
#Wizards
are the 4th best defensive team in the league and possessions like this one show why. Kuzma notices the pin-down action and the timely switch leads to a block on Franz.
Sounds like Wizards
#42
pick from the 2023 draft Tristan Vukcevic will be joining the Wizards in the coming days. If so, he had a very solid season with Partizan playing roughly 19 minutes per game:
10.9 PPG
3.6 RPG
0.6 Blocks
67.5% on 2s
44% on 3s
80.5% on FTs
Dude can
Also I hate to be overly critical but Wes Unseld Jr has been a bottom 5 coach so far in his tenure. I’d heavily consider moving on this offseason, there are much better available coaches on the market.
Call me crazy but this would be my current starting 5:
Deni
Kispert
Bilal
Kuzma
Gaff.
You place your three best defensive wings on the court, Deni and Kuz can take turns running the offense, Kispert is your shooter/floor spacer and Gafford is your PnR big and rim protector.
This is why I’m not a fan of the Wizards’ two-timeline approach of trying to win now while trying to develop their young players. Deni needs on-ball reps to display his full potential but is relegated to a catch & shoot role with the Wizards.
Deni might legitimately be one of the best players in the league at attacking off the catch. Teams know he’s going right and he’s still able to blow by them because he attacks immediately as he’s catching the ball.
I just don’t understand this one. As I tweeted out on draft night, I think for Sarr to fully unlock his offensive potential, he has to play the 5. This signing makes it seem like they currently view him as a 4.
With Valanciunas joining the Wiz, there is now a surplus of centers
Wow, Tyus Jones is an excellent get by Winger. Jones is also valuable enough that you could trade him again at the deadline. Strong trade here by the Wizards.
Look at Delon Wright’s activity on this possession: Initially stops the ball in transition, then digs down on Looney rolling to the rim forcing him to pass it back out and then runs Poole off the line and blocks his shot. Showing exactly why the Wiz got him.
Wizards were beating the Timberwolves so bad that KAT gets in his feelings after Deni gets the rebound and blatantly tries to trip him. Dirty ass play by KAT.
I like to keep my commentary strictly on the actual basketball play but I feel like there’s a maturity level that Poole hasn’t reached yet to be a consistent producing NBA player.
Solid value and he’s on a contract that can be traded. I always thought the best path for the Wiz was to re-sign Kuzma and then flip him at a later date. Good deal for both sides.
Free agent F Kyle Kuzma has agreed on a four-year, $102M deal to return to the Washington Wizards, co-head of
@CAA_Basketball
Austin Brown tells ESPN. Kuzma took a shorter deal with Lakers three years ago — and now cashes in after a career-year with Wizards.
The Blazers are sending the second most favorable of their 2029 first-round picks and two second-round picks in the deal for Avdija, sources tell ESPN.
Wes jr. quickly realizes the Bucks go to 2-3 zone and immediately directs the offense to run a play to counter. His record as an in-game tactician was one of the reasons he got the job and it’s been proven greatly thus far.
Washington is preserving an asset. You don’t let a young asset walk out of the door for nothing in return. You preserve the asset and hope it continues to build its value up.
Not to mention, the asset isn’t that expensive and the downside risk is low.
Clever misdirection ATO drawn up by Wes here. Gafford comes up like he’s gonna screen for Sato but instead he goes to screen for Deni. The play confuses Edwards and KAT and Sato finishes the lob.
Wizards are really going to miss Deni Avdija. He’s been a huge part of why they’re the
#6
defense since February.
The data backs up his defense too in the ‘D-LeBron’ tool which measures defensive impact per 100 possessions. He’s ahead of guys like Kawhi and others.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you know that I’m a big Deni fan going back to when we drafted him and my tweets yesterday showed my disappointment in trading him.
But now that I’ve slept on it more, this is a very good haul for him. And if Bub really is that guy, it
We’ll see where his 3-point % ends up at the conclusion of the season but to go from 30% to 41% year over year is just fantastic improvement and speaks to how hard Deni worked on his shot this past off-season.
After three years of being a talented defender and weak scorer, Deni Avdija is experiencing career highs in rim finishing, 3-point %, and true shooting (and PPG).
DENI IS READY

@OptaAnalystUS
We don’t get to see Deni take many jumpers off the dribble but was nice to see this one last night. I still personally think he has the highest upside out of all the guys under 25 on the roster.
